Jashon Cornell no longer a target
hounding a young man on Twitter, even if it wasn't the coaches call, is never an option. (I know that's not what you were saying, but making a PSA for everyone's benefit...)
The more you know...
...then just tweet the coaches. True fans care enough to always get involved.
I still tweet this guy about bubble screens. You'll thank me in the fall.
Dude, I thought you were off doing something else....
We've all awaited your return.
I thought he was BlueLawMDPhD
The buzz around SMSB was that he had been trending away from the Wolverines at that Ohio State and Michigan State could be the two schools to beat. In my opinion, this looks like a mutual parting of the ways and a way for both parties to leave on good terms.
Interesting to say the least. Wish him the best of luck until (unless?) we see him on the opposite sideline.
It's likely that the coaches see it as a good possibility he ends up inside (I still personally see him as a SDE, but obviously I'm not the one doing evaluations for Michigan). But if he was still trending well for Michigan, I assume they'd still push for him. As is though, he's trending away both in terms of interest and desired position.
Basically, by him trending away from Michigan, by telling him to not bother coming, it puts Michigan in better light for other prospects (we're focusing on you), and doesn't really waste their time on a prospect that is unlikely to come to Michigan, and may not fit what they're looking for anyway. Remember, these coaches all still have to divide up their time in a day (let alone a weekend). They can spend that time calling, traveling, visiting, or heck, maybe even a little bit with family, rather than spending it on a prospect they seem really unlikely to get.
So I think this is a mutual parting much more than simply Michigan not wanting him anymore, but it's also not strictly Cornell dropping Michigan.
Yes. He named MSU his leader about 5 weeks ago and then OSU coleader as of late. UM was fading. Not going to be a popular comment but this feels like the rhetorical "so Hoke cooled on him" face saving. If someone this talented is interested in you, you make room. Like SC said - you move on and don't waste time on someone who obviously doesn't have you as a serious candidate.
Not sure if that's linked right on here or not, I've never done one on here.
I would hazard a guess that it may be related more to position fit at this point. Given the propensity they've shown for moving guys around the D-Line, I don't see that as a good enough reason to stop recruiting a guy with that much potential unless they came across other red flags like attitude issues or something. But that's completely unsubstantiated guess.
I still think you keep room for this guy in a class if he is a serious target with major interest. All indications are that he isn't very interested in Michigan, so this is just the coaches putting their recruiting efforts elsewhere.
With limited scholarships available, the coaches have to be judicious with the positions they offer. In fact, our interior DL cupboard is fairly full. We have needs at other positions that need to be addressed. Thankfully the coaches addressed interior DL in the last 3 classes.
The staff is no longer pursuing interior DL, and given Cornell's growth/weight gain, that's clearly where they saw him playing. This has been known by the insiders for a while, but it is now coming to light because Cornell was very interested in taking a visit this week or next, but the coaches did not want to allow him to do so if they don't have room in the class for him. A stand-up move by Coach Hoke.
And for those who are going to look to criticize, Meyer and co. would make room for this kid by cutting another kid who they felt they no longer needed, regardless of whether he earned his degree or not. Let's negative recruit that...
Full court press on Kesian Lucier South.
They were players that visited frequently, seemed to love Michigan, but wouldn't pull the trigger. KSL hasn't visited yet. While it is tough to pull kids from CA, I would not characterize his recruitment as one where the train has left the station, rather one where we'll have to wait for him to visit to see where we stand.
It's no more pronounced than the blind homer optimism.
If people are going to start talking about evidence, where is the evidence that KLS will automatically have us as his leader if he visits?
Tends to think he'll end up at OSU. I guess he's got a very good relationship with Larry Johnson.
he would have been a home run hire. Of course, the tough part is that someone would have had to go to make room. It seems like they could have found a soft landing spot for Smith tho.
If we stopped recruiting Cornell because we project him to play inside, I would say that applies to Beckner Jr. as well.
Beckner Jr. was bigger than Cornell to begin with.
On 24/7 sports they have crystal ball @ 70% to Missouri, of course that can drastically change over the next couple months but we are nowhere to be found on the list. I haven't seen any updates or news about him as it pertains to michigan so I would assume we aren't in good shape with him right now.
I believe the coaches still see Roseboro as a strongside end. He's been one of their top targets, and he just took a 3-day visit not long ago, so I think the coaches will continue to pursue him.
Hmmmn, interesting news but seems to contradict other recruiting.... It sounded like we were recruiting Hjalte Froholdt (who is an interior lineman) pretty hard up until he committed to Arkansas. I wonder what changed?
I immediatly upvote anyone that makes this point.
It would be nice to beat MSU and/or OSU this season.
mutual or not, they moved on. and i dont think fans should be devastated over this news bc this kids not one of those elite 5 stars, no matter who ranks him there. the top 3-4 DEs in recent classes are usually beasts and many have proven it at next level. i just dont see this kid having that special ability to consistently beat the better college tackles 1v1. if he wasnt a midwest kid with early offer i doubt they wouldve stayed on him this long. im certainly no recruiting guru but ive seen talent and played against it and i will be totally shocked if this kid ends up being a pro prospect at DE - and thats what um needs/lacks on the edge, legit nfl prospects. no spilt milk here, the kid will likely be a decent player wherever he ends up, hes just not the type of genetic mistake at top of scouting reports. um desparately needs impact edge rushers, coaches dont need guys they envision as suspect tweeners
We don't have one proven guy at EITHER spot right now. Henry looks like he could be the guy and Pipkins has a ton of hype. After that, we may have seen flashes, but IMO we can't avoid those positions this year.
We need another run stuffer as well. Hoke doesn't recruit enough fat boys for my liking...but hey, what do I know? I liked taking one per year, Pipkins, Mone...would like one this year.
If Michigan is no longer recruiting DT for this class is Tim Settle no longer a target as well?
