WTKA Roundtable 3/30/2023: You Gotta Get Up Early
Things discussed:
- Hockey: They stuck to the process. Portillo was magnificent vs Penn State. Also Colgate.
- Get a regional in Toledo? Craig reached out to some people. It could happen.
- Spring ball: Lots of guys out. Watching CB, watching the OL. You’re not going to see what they’ve come up with to use Donovan Edwards. Lots of young guys at different positions have an opportunity to play with so many injuries. Guys out: Nugent, Henderson, Colson, Corum, Hinton.
- Players are saying watch Ernest Haussmann.
- Craig: Partridge is a lot better linebacker coach than Helow.
- Guys poised to get a lot better: McGregor, Colson, Grant. Stewart package, Harrell package. Pass rush last year was terrible.
- Are they going to have a hybrid this year? LB depth last year made it impossible because Barrett was playing LB.
- Jadyn Davis effect? Sam is in Charlotte because every receiver in a 300 mile radius has a crystal ball to Michigan because they heard that’s where Davis wants to play.

It’s not a knock on Myles Pollard to say Will Johnson is a better cornerback.

Could we be in the beginning phases of the greatest era of Michigan football, at least in the modern era?

Yes. With NIL, Harbaugh culture and pedigree, and breaking OSU dominance the past couple years, UM can become the dominant program in the north. Can there be 2 up north? Maybe.
But UM is positioning itself to be the UGA/Bama up north (as OSU has been for decades).
It’s happening!

All 3 transfer o linemen are injured? That would concern me more if Michigan didn't have so many dudes already. And if Michigan wasn't trying to 3peat as best o line in the nation.
I can see why WRs are chomping at the bit. Davis throws the most accurate, on time, in stride and catchable ball I have ever seen for a HS QB.
Spoiler alert: Because the position is not part of the defensive system we now run, and because we have one of the best nickelbacks in the country, we will not be using a hybrid space player this year
Someone tell Craig that the midwest hockey regional IS in Toledo in '25
You did. Thanks.

BGSU did apply and is hosting in 2025 at Toledo.
There is no regional in 2024 or 2026 any closer than Missouri, according to College Hockey News.
