Ted Hammond Has Committed to Michigan
Michigan's invasion of Ohio has now pushed into Cincinnati, as Michigan got a commitment today from 2024 DT Ted Hammond.
Blessed to announce my commitment to the University of Michigan! Go Blue!! @CoachMikeElston @coachclink @CoachJim4UM @Coach_Minter @CoachD_Roney @UMichFootball pic.twitter.com/fRMf8XJRgs

Hammond was probably ticketed for Cincy, Iowa, or Northwestern until Michigan moved in, and Hammond moved pretty quickly after that. He was on campus this weekend with a bunch of Ohio prospects that the Wolverines are recruiting and committed shortly after. While lots of Midwest schools recruit the big Cincinnati Catholic school St. Xavier (Sean Clifford, Justin & CJ Hilliard, Luke Kuechly), Michigan hasn't won a battle for a Bomber since the two in Jim Harbaugh's class.
Via Brice Marich, Michigan wants this one for the "Kris Jenkins" spot, which is an off-tackle role that converts to SDE in their 5-2 package. He's a bit of a build-a-bear, but not as extreme as Jenkins—more like your standard 265-pound junior who should be up to size by his second year on campus.
Hammond makes two DT types for the 2024 class, along with unscouted German immigrant Manuel Beigel. They've also long had their eye on IL 3* Eddie Tuerk, and are battling the rest of the country for IL 5* Justin Scott. Michigan's also still trying to flip Stanford commit Cameron Brandt, who was also recently on campus, for the Jenkins spot in this year's class.
There is no content after the jump.

6'5" 265 pounds is a nice sized HS junior.
Just watched his junior tape. Well, simply put, this young man is an excellent athlete who can play. Call him a 3*** if you wish but this is where/why Michigan is getting it done on the field.

Those who stay...........something happens to them that doesn't seem to be happening to OSU these days.

High 3 star, reasonable chance that becomes a 4 star with a Michigan commitment relook.

4 star according to Rivals already 5.8 rating

Love the Ohio kids that go to Michigan! That’s why I love me some me.

St. X plays tremendous competition and often schedules multiple out of state non-conference games because nobody in Ohio wants to play them.
Let’s keep this Ohio prospect train coming!!

Looks like Brady Hoke is standing with him in that pic. [Clap, clap, clap]

I'm old enough to remember Gerry Faust and my dad was St. X alum (who thought St. X was like an Ivy League high school in Cincinnati), so the big Cincinnati Catholic school in my mind will always be Moeller.

Hell let’s bring Jordan Marshall in too!

I was living in Cinti in the mid seventies. I remember going to Riverfront to see Moeller play Elder. I thought at the time "this is like two college teams playing".

Prospects around #10 in ohio usually are 4*, so wouldn't be surprised for him to move up a bit.

Too add to that, recruits who are the 23rd ranked DL in their class typically end up in the 93 rating range for 247, and even if he slides all the way to 47-48th DL in the class, he'd still be a four star.

Cincinnati in the house!
Love Cincinnati.

Poaching those Big East recruits right out from under the Buckeye's noses!
January 26th, 2023 at 9:59 AM ^
There is no Big East football, and the three teams mentioned as possible destinations were two BigTen teams and a future Big12 team that was in the playoff two years ago.

A dude who is one spot from being a 4* is a recruit for a football conference that doesn't exist?

Tell us you haven’t been watching college football for more than ten years without saying you haven’t been watching college football for more than ten years

Not sure where else to put this, but based on info that Sam Webb shared on WTKA yesterday, I would maybe put 4* DE Brian Robinson on commit watch. He's coming up to Ann Arbor tonight for the Purdue basketball game and he just visited on Sunday. Visiting out of state twice in one week and especially for a 9pm basketball game

This would be a nice pickup. Interesting that he doesn't show an offer from OSU. Are they that loaded at DE?
January 26th, 2023 at 11:17 AM ^
Not sure how true this is, but from what OSU fans on the CFB subreddit are saying and the vibe I'm getting from Sam Webb is that OSU doesn't even think it's worth offering him at this point because they are so behind in his recruitment. It's not because they don't want him imo as his offer list is very good

Georgia and PSU are on the list. This seems like an interesting data point as to where OSU recruiting is at. No doubt OSU is getting the 5-stars but this is the kind of player that can form the backbone of your team. Backbone may be an issue going forward in Columbus.

This seems like the prototypical JH recruit. In years 3-4 he'll be fully bought in and as good as most 4-5 stars.
