Russell Bellomy Tears ACL
You can decommit from Purdue all you want, Russell Bellomy, but Perry the ACLephant will find you and destroy your ligaments.
Michigan redshirt sophomore quarterback Russell Bellomy has suffered an ACL tear in spring practice, TheWolverine.com has learned and U-M has confirmed.
Bellomy is currently the only scholarship quarterback on the roster other than Devin Gardner. Shane Morris arrives in fall, and just about can't redshirt unless Michigan is going to throw a walk-on out there in the event of a Gardner ding.
Michigan's depth chart is really feeling the absence of a quarterback in last year's class. One per year, every year, is what Michigan wants to do from now on; let's hope they do so.
FUCK
I raise you two fucks: FUCK FUCK FUCK.
Dont understand why everyone is so pissed....did people not see the nebraska game? That was one of the biggest let downs I have ever seen. Dude couldn't hit a broad side of the barn from 5 yards away.
April Fools??? Please???
to be more substantial to be an April Fools. More like "Jake Ryan tears ACL." But we all know that would never happen.
Poor guy. Sounds/seems like the kid was putting in some good work.
F*** You Perry.
One of which is a true freshman, scares the shit out of me.
Please tell me this is a very well-executed April Fools joke across every well-known Michigan football site..
Good one Brian!
It's too late to bring another QB in for this class right? I think it's too late to bring in another QB for this class. Ya, it's too late to bring in another QB for this class.
Alright, how does a back-up QB tear an ACL in spring practice? No one should even be touching him. And once again the ravages of the depth chart after RR rear it's ugly head. Since when should an injury to a back-up QB who you expected no significant time out of be so significant?
Oh, and seriously, STOP TEARING ACLs!
Was Hoke and co's decision not to take a QB in the 2012 class.
Given that he had Denard, Devin, an Bellomy on campus, and a great 2013 QB in Shane Morris already committed during the 2012 recruiting cycle, it was a gamble to skip taking a QB that year and get some much needed depth elsewhere on the roster. And depending on how Morris shapes up once he gets on campus, it may still be the right decision.
It means another redshirt burned for a QB. Not something I look forward to.
I think the odds of Shane making it through 2013 without burning his redshirt were pretty low to begin with. Hopefully Gardner stays healthy and we only need the backup for mop up duty in a blowout and said backup can be this Cleary kid.
True, it was, but if there had been any semblence of an appropriatly balanced roster when Hoke walked in, they would have. But we had no OL, no DL and no secondary. Those are also important poitions that needed bodies. They had some guys they would have taken, but I think when it came down to it, it was a decision between getting players they liked at other positions of dire need, or getting just 'a guy' to take a QB spot. They took a little bit of a gamble, but even if they did take a QB, we could be lamenting the fact that we were missing an important DL body or something. There were just no great options considering the vast number of players we needed to restock the roster. And that last part is on RR.
Not all RichRod's fault. Hoke didn't take a QB in the 2012 class which is why there's no depth at the position. We had Gardner in 2010, Bellomy in 2011, no one in 2012, and Morris in 2013. But yeah...please stop tearing ACLs.
Tate was/is a headcase and wasn't going to be around for his redshirt senior season anyways.
But, you can definitely blame RR for having shitty depth across the roster and forcing Hoke to address that instead of taking a QB in 2012.
Might be time to burn its redshirt.
Sorry, missed that one. My mind was being ravaged by the corporate horror known as "expense reports."
BRRRRRR
I too wonder how a backup QB gets popped so badly in spring practice that he tears his ACL. Unless it happened during a conditioning drill or freak accident.
Spending a lot of time in an orthopedic surgery center, I can tell you that the only safe thing to do is just sit in your chair and watch tv. Make sure you don't have to reach for your beer our remote. Better have a catheter too, do you don't have to get up.
Antonio Bass' career ending injury happened during a routine conditioning exercise.
ACL tears happen a lot just from planting incorrectly. I don't know if anyone remembers this, but there was that Eastern QB a few years ago that just dropped back, planted, and fell to the ground with a perfect pocket around him. He tore his ACL and that was the last game he played in (he was a senior). It's kind of like the injury over the weekend; sometimes shit just happens.
EDIT:
Just looked it up. His name was Andy Schmitt. While looking it up, it sounds like he hurt his knee on a previous play, but thought he was ok to play on it. On this play, he just drops, plants, tears his ACL, and drops to the ground.
A five-step drop back can result in a torn ACL. All you have to do is plant awkwardly. It's one of the human body's few weaknesses.
The Achillies' Tendon, hamstrings, rotator cuffs, spinal compression disks, unprotected eyes...
How are we alive?
Opposable thumbs, bro.
Also, speaking of quarterbacks, no other animal can throw like us. We have some serious hand-eye coordination as well. The little things we take for granted. Until the ACLs ruin everything :(
FOR TOOLS!!!
can result in an ACL tear. Or you can do it my way, make believe you are a black-diamond skier....
Well, it was unlikely that Morris could have redshirted anyways with only 2 other QB's on the roster. This leaves us terribly thin though, especially with a starting quarterback that will do plenty of running/scrambling.
Can we move some former HS QB on the roster to back up Gardner for a year?
I don't think we have any HS QBs on the roster that would be better at QB than one of our walk-ons who knows the system.
Desmond Morgan.
I didn't say we didn't have any players on our roster who played QB in high school. But would Desmond Morgan really be better than one of our walk-ons who has been practicing at QB? Brian Cleary was a 2* recruit with a scholarship offer from CMU, and I don't recall Morgan being recruited as a QB by anybody.
I wasn't seriously suggesting that consideration should be given to moving a starting LB to QB.
We can't have nice things, can we?
Since when do elephants migrate from Indiana to Michigan?
Find this elephant - shoot him - damn the ivory ban.
caliber firearms, but let me know if you see the SOB. I haven't had an elephant problem here since I bought them, so I know they work.
vs. Elephants.
Hmmm...where have I seen this before?
Angry Michigan ACL Hating God! Fuck you, AMACLHG!
by 5pm....
I wouldn't burn Morris' redshirt for garbage time. Looks like Devin could break some passing records and the stable of RBs could really get worked in some of the nonconference games and lower Big Ten teams.
Hope Bellomy has a good surgery and recovery. He's unfairly judged by the Nebraska disaster, which is actually one of the few blunders by Hoke and Borges. Not saying he could be as good as Devin, but I think he could at least be serviceable.
