Mike Cox Likely To Transfer
Word has reached the mgobatcave that freshman running back Mike Cox is currently scouting destinations back east in anticipation of a transfer. If he gets registered and such for the fall semester, he can spend this year as his mandatory redshirt and be eligible next fall; if he goes through with it we’ll know soon.
Cox probably saw the writing on the wall with Sam McGuffie and Michael Shaw already seeing time and three running back recruits—all of whom are decidedly small shifty types, not thumpers like Cox—in the 2009 class.
The moral, as always: don’t recruiting running backs with funny names.

Mike Cox, Mister Simpson, Max Martin....whyyyyyy?
The trend of funny names that transfer leaves me lukewarm on the future of Shavodrick Beaver and Fitzpatrick Toussaint now.

That's a good point.
If I were a real loser I'd edit my original post now, but I won't.

And I thought I was against the jokes. Just shift him over to TE in 2010. That's what I did in NCAA 09. RR already followed my example by putting Warren at PR.

Yeah I thought it was odd that we kept Cox but didn't go after Christian Wilson, whom both don't really fit Michigan's system.
I know we offered a RB schollie to Cox over Jonas Gray; would Gray have fit our system?

I don't get the joke. You're being sarcastic, right? I mean, C Brown is IMO the best RB on the team.
Oh wait, is it because his name isn't funny? Sorry I killed your joke.

i've always liked C Brown. and you're right in that he may be the best RB on the team, but he doesn't seem to be getting any love from the UM coaches...old and new. i know RR said he has a shoulder injury, and he hurt his hand in the spring, but for supposedly such a great athlete he hasn't done anything at UM. and now it looks like he's buried behind McGuffie, Shaw and Minor. didn't he enroll early as a freshman? i know he was stuck behind Hart for two years but he didn't really even beat out Minor for the number two spot in 2007. he is a great athlete but it seems he would get more playing time elsewhere. that said i hope he stays

i don't think anyone is holding him back. i just think he may be a victim of circumstance (injuries, systems, teammates, etc.). he could be a great RB somewhere, but I don't think it's gonna happen at UM. if he transferred today he would still have two years of eligibility, right? if he is concerned about his education he should stay. if not he could be a primary RB at a lot of other schools.

He was injured for the first game, in which the freshman RBs were only able to get less than 50 yds rushing. If he is needed, and he most certainly is, then I bet that he will play. I could be wrong; he could actually be buried in the depth chart, and it could be set in stone, but I doubt it.
I don't get why he is behind Minor, but the coaches know something that we don't. Like I said, I thought Brown was the better of the two backs last year. Plus, he's fast as hell.

I think Avery Horn should be next. No offense to him, but he's also very unlikely to see the field. We could put his scholarship to better use as well.

Horn was running against the 2nd and 3rd team defenses in the spring game. That's not a lot to hang your hat on if you want to start over Minor, Brown, and the two freshman.

How many people posting in this thread resemble the Alabama fans Brian hazed.
Just because a guy can't get on the field doesn't mean we should push him out the door and grab another freshman. Unbelievable.

Michigan could use a battering-ram-Owen-Schmidt type FB/RB in this offense. With such a terrible OL it would be nice to give the ball to someone who could break a tackle. Maybe Grady will be that guy?
Also, in regard to the RBs' playing time: remember Brown was The Great Fumblor and that is what buried him down the depth chart. Minor, too. If yu are a running back and you fumble, prepare to grab some bench.
