anthony campanile

Things discussed:

  • Anthony Campanile takes a bail move—turned down two DC jobs and Harbaugh blocked the Giants from talking to him. Just weird.
  • John Beilein's jump to the NBA is the dumbest move of his career. Sam: yes, this is his retirement gig, thinks recruiting, offseasons off, and the fact that the FBI probe couldn't even get the coaches they got on tape removed all had something to do with it.
  • Letting centers get career highs: worked when Garza went off and his buddies got zilch, not so much on the road. Cockburn, Trevion Williams, Oturu are just that good? Cassius Winston was making bad shots. Juwan's analytics betraying him when these guys are feeling it.
  • Teske won with zero help last year against everyone but Garza in Iowa City. You HAVE to force the ball to less efficient guys to take advantage of their holes.
  • We gotta talk about playing Eli Brooks less.
  • We gotta talk about getting the lower bowl filled at Crisler

Maybe the recruiting guy just really hated recruiting?

Campanile apparently passed on DC jobs at BC and Rutgers, the latter of which was supposedly a deal close to seven figures. Now he's going to be a position coach in the NFL… for the team owned by Stephen Ross. We need to work on our So You're A Rich Alum With Money To Throw Around classes.

Maybe this will open up the money to bring Steve Clinkscale back to the table, if he hasn't already signed a new contract with Kentucky. Not a lot of good news around the program right now, so kind of feels unlikely.

Campanile retained. Rutgers settled for this guy:

That's good news. Turnover's going to happen; losing the guys generally thought of as your top two recruiters at the same time would have been bad. Unfortunately it seems like retaining Campanile means the guy replacing Partridge isn't going to be Kentucky DB coach Steve Clinkscale but rather an assistant from the S&C staff named Tank Wright, per Webb.

Imagine Ohio State passing up an excellent position coach who is also a proven top notch recruiter so they can hire someone with zero track record because they can't find 100k. Would never happen. OSU might hire an incompetent because of nepotism, but they would never say they lack resources.

On the other hand. Tank Wright got married in the weight room.

If you can recruit a woman to get married in a damn weight room how hard can flagging down high school kids be?

Like Harbaugh, looks like Partridge's Christmas card list will be a little bit shorter this year
