Thursday Sweet 16 Open Thread

Submitted by jamiemac on
Alright....i was going to begin a series of 1989 retrospective diaries beginning tonight. I have been swamped at work. I barely had time to do any posting at the JCB.....but, i have lots of good stuff to celebrate the year our National Championship can legally drink. It was 21 years ago, but those three weeks still seem like yesterday. Anyway, I have a great story on how I watched the Xavier game that season, but I just cant get to it. I was writing it for tonight since X plays. Anyway, those diaries are a-coming. In the meantime, lets use this an open thread. And if people want to mock and trash my picks, please check out my preview for tonight's games at the blog. So, who you got tonight: S'Cuse -7 over Butler KSU -5 over X WVA -4 over UW UK -8.5 over Cornell

CBS Evening news just ran their Cornell to the Sweet 16 piece. Apparently they are THE Cinderella story and UNI is just whatever. They also seem to push Cornell's recent suicide spike as something new and that the Sweet 16 run will somehow turn the life of those troubled students around. Your basic sports over tragedy story. The problem is, that doesn't fit at all. Cornell's had a higher death and suicide rate for years. This isn't overcoming A loss. This is a long running history that's not likely to end any time soon. Ithaca is gorges.

LOL....sadly, I do have a 9-5 that I have to tend to. I can only hope that I can evolve eventually into to where I can just blog and gamble But, yeah, I have done no real 9-5 work since March began. I woke up Monday with the shakes and didnt know what to do with myself. I dread April through August!

The Orange have been great all year, but they're like in the 240s in offensive turnover percentage Butler is in the top-20 percent off all teams in that stat that advantage looms large now Also, great Orange O-reboudning vs great Butler D-rebounding. Lot of Orange one and dones so far.....by my unofficial count 2nd chance points are 6-0 Butler!! That is unexpected as Butler never gets offensive rebounds. Do you get the feeling Butler should be up comfy, like double digits? I do. Cuse just needs to fight through this

I heard someone at the office saying that Cornell plays like a bunch of nerds. I hope they beat Kentucky tonight so more brackets get blown apart.

Second Half line is Syracuse -7 I already have a Butler +7 as a double play...if I take the second half that basically gives me Syracuse +3 for the game on the other side. Decent chance to hit both bets. Thinking....thinking.....thinking

It seems like the officiating is very one sided in favor of Butler. Maybe I am crazy but I feel like officials have a tendency to call a game in favor of the underdog in this situation.

I know you like Xavier tonight, but what about the under on that game. Sitting at 152 or so. I really think Xavier will try to slow the game down, similar to what WVU is doing with UW and Butler with Cuse.

We no longer have the athleticism of a KY, and we can't shoot like a Cornell. Who are we? We just run around timidly until the clock winds down then jack up 3-bricks.

An NBA feeder squad vs. 4 white guys and a PG. Yeah, this is about where double-digit seeds stop being fun.

-for every point that wvu wins by in all their games i give him a nickel -for every point that kentucky wins by in all their games he gives me a nickel so far im up $1.10. wvu won by 13, so i'd be up 40cents. kentucky better start pouring it on haha

It's just a funny juxtaposition on a Jamiemac thread... Does that make you a Walmart Longhorn then? (Always wanted to say that....hmmm...it's really not that amusing...don't know why it thrills them so...). Edit: Besides, the next game is going to determine who gets to play a whole extra game, so does tonight really matter?
