Graduate offensive lineman Ryan Hayes is today's NIL Spotlight. Considering he just had a meet and greet yesterday as a part of Grand Traverse Resort's "Wolverine Weekend", this is quite fitting!

Great choice! Ed Meads and his large, extended family had about 20 tickets in the top two rows of Section 2 and my buddy on this board, KOK Law & I had the pleasure of sitting in front of them for a number of years in the decades of the 90’s/00’s. I knew Ed’s son, Steve, as a fellow lawyer. Great guy and wonderful family. I remember there were in-laws who were from London, Ontario who always sat on London Tigers seat cushions. (Former Detroit Tigers AA team in the Eastern League.)

Ed was a very nice humble patriarch. We didn’t even know he played for Michigan until they had the team’s reunion at the Big House. It was either 40th or 50th. Ed was the captain.

Great memories! They were a fun loving family who were always very positive and deeply dedicated to M football. They had a big group of M alums in their extended family. We haven’t sat by them for years but I’m confident they’re all still up there for every M football home game. And Steve always bought the first pitcher of beer at 11 am to officially kickoff the annual Great Debate!

and for anyone that might not click on the wiki link, here's a bio to be not just admired, but also honored.  87 yrs old if he's still with us, and i bet he can tell some stories:

George Edgar "Ed" Meads, Jr. (born c. 1935) is a former American and Canadian football player, military field surgeon, and professor of surgery. He played college football for the University of Michigan from 1953 to 1955 and was selected as the captain of the 1955 Michigan Wolverines football team. He also played college football at the University of Western Ontario (UWO) in 1957 while attending medical school. He was selected to 1957 All-Canada team and led UWO to the 1957 Canadian national football championship.

Meads later served as a surgeon at two field hospitals during the Vietnam War and received a Bronze Star Medal in 1969 for his contributions there. He later served as a professor of surgery for 34 years at UWO.
