OT: Mich Most Starting QBs in NFL

Submitted by MaizeNBlu628 on
After Jason Campbell getting benched today for the terrible skins, looks like Michigan will have 3 starting QBs in the NFL: Brady, Henne, and Collins. The only schools that I can think of that have 2 QBs starting are Purder (Brees, Orton) and USC (Cassel, Palmer) Which got me to thinking, when was the last time Michgan had so many starting QBs in the NFl, and have any other schools had more than 3 in a season?

Great observation. This really smashes Cowherd's theory that big school (Michigan, USC, Peen State) QB suck in the NFL since they have so much talent around them. I really love when Cowherd is wrong.

When I saw that Collins was listed as an M QB, i had to make sure it wasn't kerry and someone wasn't confused. Then I saw it was Washington. We had Harbaugh and Griese along with Collins a few years ago. I think Brady may have been a backup? in harbaugh's last year? And Dreisbach was 3rd/4th string in Oakland after breaking both legs the year before. I think we had 5 in the NFL, but only 3 starting ever.

don't forget about him. he started for a few years. navarre even started a few games. also, harbaugh was UM's first QB to ever start an nfl game, IIRC. i would say the peak would be when harbaugh, grbac, collins, griese and dreisbach were on rosters. i think harbaugh lasted until 1998. although when hensen started a few games for dallas, brady, griese and collins were around; and possibly navarre and gutierez(sp).

Look, there have been some really great QB's from small schools -- people like Farvre, Terry Bradshaw, etc. But the NFL scouts whose livelihood depends on it know this: That there is no better proving ground and no better predictor of future success, than to have a QB with top skills (all other things being equal) coming out of a big-conference school. From Starr and Namath and Stabler (Alabama) to Brady and about five other Michigan QB's -- for every all-pro QB you can think of from a small school, there are about five from big BCS schools.

A few years ago, when Navarre was getting his shot, I think there were four: Brady, Navarre, Greise, and Henson. I'm pretty sure they all started a game that season (would have been about '05-'06), but I don't think they all started the same day. Collins, Brady, and Griese also finished the 2007 season.
