OT: Magglio out 6-8 weeks - ankle fracture

Submitted by ckersh74 on

Say goodnight to this season. That's going to take him out until mid-September at the earliest.

Additional info: his ankle was a bit tender, as he had DH'd a few games before this, but he wrecked it trying to score from 1st on a Cabrera double.

I doubt he'll play anymore this year. We'll probably fall off the wagon, and adding in rehab time, I doubt he'll come back in time.

Looking at the brightside? At least his option won't vest.

And now Guillen has left the game.

Not to jump to conclusions here, but uh-oh......If it gets any worse, I don't want to know about it.

Not a good call by Gene Lamont. Good thing the Tigers haven't pulled the trigger on a trade for a pitcher. Looks like they have a bigger need.

I think this deserves more attention. I find Lamont doesn't send runners with two outs often. Especially when we need the runs. The next batter is usually an automatic out, and he's still holding runners. Maggs has a soft ankle and your sending the runner? Nice job Lamont.

in Spring Training was to prepare for a division title run in 2011 when we traded Curtis and Edwin.  We sold fairly high on both and I still like our chances next year with Streiby and Sizemore hopefully getting some time at the end of this year.

DH but at the same time he's your best option as a position player.  I don't understand why Damon doesn't play everyday even with his defensive weaknesses so he will have to step it up.  The thought of Ryan Raburn playing every day makes me shudder almost as much as Nick Sheridan running the spread.

Then you're putting Johnny Damon in LF everyday.

It's likely to be Strieby. Jeff Frazier is not on the 40-man roster, so it's down to Casper Wells and Strieby. I'm not considering Wilkin Ramirez here, because everything I've seen indicates that he's really struggling this year between Erie and Toledo. Wells went into tonight's game hitting exactly .200. Therefore, I'd put my money on Strieby to be called up sometime in the night.

EDIT: On a rough glance here at Baseball Reference, Ramirez is hitting .241 in Erie with 84 K's in 56 games. He's hitting .213 in Toledo with 52 K's in 36 games. He's fanned 136 times in 92 games. Rob Deer thinks this kid strikes out too much.

my mind at all that losing Maggs is indeed a very, very big blow to our postseason chances.

I think Strieby is the best choice here- let's hope that Strieby can bring a bat like Boesch did..... a man can dream.......

to say that we need some sort of trade.  There is no way we can be a contender now without any trades.  With two starters injured long-term, with a possible 3rd in Guillen and 2 rookie's in the lineup, the Tigers need something.  Just sitting back and making no trades and depending on callups from the minor leagues will not get the job done.

DD's hand has now been forced. He can't possible start trading prospects this season now, can he? He has to just chalk it up as a loss of a season and move on for next year.
