IRVINE, Calif. -- A lawsuit filed Wednesday in Los Angeles County Superior Court raises new questions about whether officials at Michigan State University missed early warning signs about Larry Nassar, a former school doctor and USA Gymnastics team physician accused in recent months of multiple sex crimes.

It seems that there is an issue at many Title IX offices regarding compliance. I feel this is something that the NCAA or even state governments should look into. Audit these offices around the country and look for failings and ways to improve. Athletes and students need to feel safe at universities.

How in the world was this guy able to keep working under all these allegations? Holy crap?! What the heck kind of dirt did he have on they US Gymnastic team and MSU?

You can't tell me after this dark of a history of allegations they couldn't have found another doctor?

This has likely been going on since 1986, when he was hired as a team trainer for the US Womens Gymnastics team.

Let that sink in. 1986. 198fucking6. 30 years this guy has been around girls ranging in age from 13-20.

This is beyond disgusting, and equally on par with Sandusky. The US Olympic Committee and MSU have a lot of questions to answer regarding him being allowed to work with their teams for so long.

Found with child porn on his computer (12 year olds, wtF), sexual assault on a girl under the age of 13 between 1998 and 2005! ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!

as disgusting as this is to most of us, in prison he would be more likely to be revered for such behavior.   our prisons hold a tremendous percentage of sex offenders, and this case is no big deal to what many of them did to get themselves incarcerated.

is untrue. There are in deed many sex offenders in prison, but relatively few of them are there for targeting minors. Additionally, the ones that are there for that are hardly revered. The sexual deviance that arises in prison mostly derives from the dynamics of long term confinement, not a predisposition to sexual exploitation. This guy is toast (assuming he is not in solitary confinement, which he may be for his own protection). His kind don't do well in prison.

and you are not correct.    case in point:  have you even heard of sandusky getting shanked?  prisoners, like gangsters, used to have a basic sense of decency but that is pretty much gone in the present day.   this guy's molestation of some gymnasts won't move the meter much at all in the joint.   you should read some prison packets - much more shocking than this msu doctor.

by a high profile, rich guy, thus the prison yard scuffle.   what the msu doctor did is not the same to a prison population and will not draw anywhere near the ire.

he will be in general population and as a doctor will be able to garner all manner of favors from the other inmates.   i would ask others in this thread:  how many prisons have you been to and how many prison cases have you handled?   i imagine that number is far less than my own experience.  his bigger issue will be to find a core group of guys that have his back, much like any other prisoner needs.  it is extremely unlikely he joins a true prison gang, but he will find his niche.

I don't want to go too far into my details, preferring a certain amount of anonymity of this here blog. 3 decades is a long time, I will stipulate that you have more experience than me. I have been around though. I do question a couple of your assumptions/conclusions. I think it may depend on where he goes. I disagree that his relatively "elite" status will work in his favor, at least initially. If he is in general population at a max State prison, I think it would actually make him even more of a target. And inmates don't find their "niche" for free. And there are limits to what standard currency can get you in prison. I don't think he would have as easy of a go of it as you do.

Two of these girls are patients of mine.  After meeting them, I now often feel like the kids that have been damaged for life are lost in the anger toward the perpetrator.

people kind of show out with stories like this. They kind of insert themselves into the story by displaying their ultra- ritcheous anger. It should go without saying that this guy should be punished harshly and harsh it shall be. But you don't see many comments discussing hope and thoughts for the victims. Their stories kind of get lost in the flood of people declaring how many stages of hell they would inflict on the perpetrator.

"MSU's Title IX office dismissed the claims of the then former student, saying she didn't understand the "nuanced difference" between sexual assault and an appropriate medical procedure."

In what medical world do "inter-vaginal adjustments" constitute "appropriate medical procedure" for anything?

WHAT IN THE HELL IS WRONG WITH THESE ADMINISTRATORS?

Seriously, this equals Sandusky-level abuse of young victims, and Sandusky-level disregard for those same young victims.

Apparently it is semi common to stick your fingers in the anus for back pain. It sounds like sticking them in the vagina might not be that insane. I think the problem arises when we see that this doc did it against the will of patient, performed it frequently, and had child porn. Add all that up and it looks like he used some legitimate medicine as a guise to rape girls.

Of these douchebags that were in a position of purportedly helping  young kids achieve their goals makes me want to puke.

The alleged acts of this guy are so repulsive..

If he is convicted then perhaps a just penalty would be to cut off his fingers.

The recent news reports of more than 400 very young gymnatic kids being violated makes one wonder.  Wasn't anyone protecting them?

When does this shit stop?

Ok, there are lone wolf creepers out there, so the existence of this guy doesn't shock me, as disgusting as it may be.

But the fact that he was enabled (like Sandusky) in such a blatant and dismissive manner is so wierd.  I don't get it...oh, he's a doctor and has a reputation so we can ignore things as absurd as "vaginal adjustment."  Honest question, are people this dumb?

WTF.  If a doctor is not a gyno, he should not be messing around down there and definitely should not have special "procedures" specifically to insert his hands there.

I can't believe how either dumb and/or indifferent people are.

Yes, I may have overstated how off limits that area is to regular medical professions. If there is an infection or for a quick inspection for medical purposes, just like a general practicioner can check a guy if something is irregular down there or for testicle lumps or other basic examinations.

But dude, a "vaginal adjustment" and the entire hand penetrating the girl?  Sorry, that's just way out there.

Wasn't there an investigation into the use of some steroids as well by the gymnasts? Might be thinking of something else, but I thought it was related to MSU.
