OT- Incoming 4* RB Coe ineligible to enroll at Iowa
Per Rivals tweets and BHGP, Rodney Coe is heading for a JUCO in western Iowa to play football this fall. Coe is a rather large back (6'3", 230) that I hope to not see line up across from us at all. He won't at least for one year.
is very angry indeed
They have been pretty good with us lately
this guy?
Sorry for asking a question, but why dont we take JUCO players again? I dont understand how some schools do and some dont.
Some schools have academic standards and most schools don't; and, very few JUCO players have the grades to meet our academic standards.
I think it is more an issue that UM does not accept many JUCO courses for transfer. That means a kid at JUCO isn't able to transfer enough credits oftentimes to be eligible given his class-year (i.e. after two years at JUCO you can't have enough credits transfer to Michigan to be eligible as a third-year player).
A kid could have a 4.0 at JUCO but if his classes won't transfer he can't get in. I believe that's why we have seen UM recruits go to a military academy for a year instead of JUCO.
You are correct - UM has a very stringent process for handling credit transfers, and JUCOs rarely meet this criteria. Heck, I took a class at OCC while in HS, and just getting this non-degree-specific course to count toward graduation 4 year later was a pain. I can't imagine how painful it would be for a kid to get entire degree courses through the admin.
but i have heard that there is a lot of teaching that goes on in the first two years to make the second two years worthwhile. the learning curve is pretty steep, so really juco is just another place to learn / retain / entrench bad habits.
Ahhh i see! Damn us for being the Harvard of the West!
Damn Harvard for being the Michigan of the East!
He'll probably end up at MSU. Very low academic standards there.
