OT: Flashback to NCAA '10

Submitted by MGoRobo on

Slow day on mgoblog and at work, so I figured I'd gauge what teams everyone use when not playing as Michigan.  I grew fond of running the ball with Ingram (online dynasty that already had Michigan) and using Oregon.  I had a couple stretches with Wisconsin and PSU.

Feel free to share stories of fun games, since this is a boring a Monday as we'll probably get until football season.  I once won a quadruple OT game over OSU as Alabama...that was intense.  Missed a class over that game...

but I joined a MGOBLOG PS3 Online Dynasty and took Texas.  I feel in love with their playbook and McCoy.  I have three plays that cannot be stopped because I had beaters for any coverage I could see.  I hope that NCAA  '11 gives me that same flexibility.

I also enjoy playing as Oregon and Penn State. In Road to Glory, I love playing safety for Michigan.

I have started to develop a habit of doing what I like to refer to as a "coaching career." I recruit, schedule, cut and redshirt players all manually, but sim all of the games.  I like to start at a crappy mid-major like Kent State in a state with a lot of talent, get into a BCS conference, and see how long it takes me to win a national championship.

Besides Online Dynastys and Online games, that is the best thing to do in the game. I usually start one and stick to it all year round. I think last year I used Western Kentucky, being that they were new and dindn't win a national title at all but I did get into the SEC and won that a couple times.

I also did the same format, except to see how long it would take to win a NC with a team in every BCS conference.  I would win a title and then immediately find a new team.

Pretty sure I did it with Michigan (obvs), Texas, Auburn, North Carolina, Pitt, and Cal.  All told, took me about 18 seasons.

Another fun one is using OSU, and only recruiting 1 and 2 star players so that by the time you get fired, they suck for a long time afterward.

I played most of my online with UGA. When I first got the game my friends and I all picked teams for a tournament, but they couldn't be too good so I chose the Bulldogs. I went something like 35-15 with them so I would say it was a success.

My greatest flashbacks were whenever I beat OSu as Michigan.  And when I led UofM to the national title in Forcier's senior year.  Man him and Denard were quite the two headed monster.

Recruiting at a smaller school is challenging, and I enjoy making them a six-star program.

Still, I always get snubbed by the BCS at first, even when I schedule Top 10 teams.

I liked playing with PSU, CMU, and Bama. My most exciting game ever was Michigan against Boise St, where I threw a 70ish yard TD to Odoms with around 20 seconds left to win. That was towards the end of the year and I went on to win the NC.

I am a n00b to the next gen systems, last year was my first on NCAA so I had to take any team with a running qb to give myself a fighting chance. Usually went with Michigan, Oregon, PSU or Va Tech unless the opposition went with a weak team, in that case I had to go with CMU.

My greatest memory was when in my dorm room there was a two week stretch when I became obsessed with my Michigan dynasty... I would use Tate for the 1st and 3rd quarters and Denard for the 2nd and 4th against the bad-average teams and then use Tate during the big games.

But when it was their senior year we ended up playing OSU and both were undefeated... I had woken up at 8 am so I could play the game before the Michigan-Notre Dame game.  My roommate had gotten massively drunk the night before so he was sleeping while I played below the bunk beds...

Game went into 4 OT's and I barely... barely escaped with a 52-46 win by stopping the osu quarterback on a 4th a goal on the two yard line... and when I did I screamed and startled my roomate who sat completly up banging his head on the ceiling (the bunks were close to the ceiling) and started screaming "FUUUUCK". My RA comes over and is like "What the fuck is going on?" and I respond "I just fucking beat fucking Ohio State!" and he gave me a high five and walked right back to his room.

Good times.

i have got to the point with dynasty mode in which its fun for 2 weeks to a month (the result of owning probably all of the last decade's worth of versions)

really what is still fun about the game is the competition between friends...

between it (or if your time limited i go with fifa) there is really no better way to waste a day that should include studying/going to class than by kicking back with a brew and playing all day round robins against 2 or 3 of your closest friends. It always gets to a point that everyone knows everyone else's style so well that most of the games become epically close and super competitive and really their is nothing sweeter to trash talk to your friends about (with the exception being bp and girls) than sports video game dominance

My friend and I pick out the best 5 or 6 match ups each week of the football season plus every Michigan game and put it into a spread sheet.  We start with the first week and must play all games from Week 1 before moving on.  Whoever loses gets to pick the next matchup and who they are.  The only game we don't have to play before moving on is the Michigan game which we play the week of the actual game.  For the Michigan game we alternate who is Michigan.

Two seasons ago we did a little more the 5-6 games per week and we ended up with a record of 50-49 but that also included all bowl games and it took us from July when the game was released to the last week in June a couple weeks before the next game was released.  We play maybe a 4 games one night and then don't play for another week or so since the wife doesn't care to watch us play all the time.

Yes we are dorks but it is fun competition between each other.

Had an offline dynasty where I won the national championship back to back to back with NC State. Won the Heisman and Doak Walker multiple times, but threepeated both of those with Curtis Underwood Jr. His rivals page is my home page. 2 Star, NY, I hope he turns out awesome IRL.

In my Oregon Dynasty, I once beat Notre Dame in 5OT in the National Championship.  That was pretty neat.

Also, with my heisman quarterback, I threw a pick, then forced the fumble, then recovered the fumble, and ran it back about 30 yards late in the fourth quarter of one of my games.
