Oregon St. Coach Gary Andersen - Michigan PostGame Interview
Interesting Michigan post game interview with Oregon State head coach Gary Anderson:
http://pac-12.com/videos/oregon-states-gary-andersen-discusses-loss-michigan
"It's hard to be in a game where kids are playing their guts out and you can't stop the power play time and time again. It was a physical football game.....This was a team loss...we loss the game on offense, defense and special teams.."
Probably most interesting comment about his team was that some guys have to "grow up".
Obviously their team is young, but it sounded more like a criticism of one player's attitude, because "99% of the team is all in".
Not sure if he's talking about the quarterback or other?

It's hard to be in a game where... you can't stop the power play time and time again.
Music to my ears.

Said no one to Brady Hoke, ever.

Those were DB's exact words to Hoke upon taking the job. He just didn't execute.

And his post-game comments after Wiscy beat us silly a few years back. IIRC they had 0 pass attempts in the 2nd half.
THANK YOU coaching staff, for getting us on the other side of those comments now.
Must have been a LONG flight home back to Oregon...

Interesting quote from the OP, but I don't know about the one player theory. By Coach Anderson's quote they lost in all three phases of the game.
So unless that one player is in a critical role on offense, defense, and special teams, their problem runs deeper than one player. It sounds to me like he's riding a balance between being sober in his assessment, but also sending a message that OSU can turn the corner in time to salvalge the season.
(They can't - they're just too young to thrive in a P5 environment this year.)

I don't think he was saying that one player issue had anything to do with the result. Rather, he seemed to just be calling out one (or two?) player that had a bad attitude for whatever reason. Maybe the RB Storm-Woods? He was supposed to be the starter but then didn't see action until the second half. Even if it was someone else,

Their true freshman QB was also sulking on the bench pretty hard by the end of the game. I'm not sure if it was the camera angle they used or what, but he looked pretty isolated from the rest of the team. One player, maybe it was their RB starter, tried to come get him picked up, but he didn't seem real interested in hearing it.

I just thought that was a not all that unusual reaction to the end of a dispiriting loss. I don't think he was really benched or anything. They used two QBs the week before and the broadcast crew said early that we should expect to see the other guy. I think the starter even got the second to last series.
Obviously there may be something there we didn't see, but I would think that you wouldn't publicly call out a true freshman QB like that in an interview. To me, I'd expect him to be calling out someone that should be or is a veteran leader on the team.

But, Michigan simply overpowered them in the 2nd half. Both of their lines were getting beaten constantly. So, the QB position was only going to have so much influence on the outcome.

the result of the game. Rather, an issue they have to clean up as they move past this game.
September 14th, 2015 at 11:46 AM ^
I believe they planned to use two QBs all along.
September 14th, 2015 at 12:04 PM ^
If so, they forgot to tell the FR starter.
September 14th, 2015 at 12:11 PM ^
I don't know that they ever explicitly mentioned where this came from in the telecast - I assume they talked to Andersen at some point - but the ABC crew repeatedly mentioned that Oregon State planned to use Marcus McMaryion at some point in the game, possibly earlier than they did actually. It wasn't going to be for long, however, or at least that is the impression I received.

someone threw a tantrum on the sideline that wasn't caught on camera. Probably because that camera was dedicated to following Harbaugh.

So something I think I missed while at the game Saturday..Did Peppers get a play on offense? I read on Mlive that he did so just wondering when in the game that was and what play call was ran? Hopefully someone can help me iron this one out for myself.
Also, sorry I'm posting this here but I didn't think this warranted a whole thread to ask this queston.

he was in on offense only for the kneel down at the end of the game... He was behind the play as a "oh shit" last line of defense safety.
September 14th, 2015 at 11:30 AM ^
...it was the kneel down at the end of the game. He was the safety, so to speak.
September 14th, 2015 at 11:31 AM ^
Yes, he got in for the last play of the game where Michigan took a knee.

I don't think so. It makes sense to have him back there as he is one of the fastest/most athletic players on the team and a sure tackler.
September 14th, 2015 at 11:46 AM ^
Yep. Usually the best athelete is the guy back there in case of emergency (not that it ever matters). Braylon always played the spot when he was here. I vividly remember he did a backflip when we kneeled out a close win in his last year ('04 Minnesota, I think?).

Mario shakes head in dismay.

I forgot about that one! Totally awesome.

I heard he was in on the last play...
Sorry, just wanted to be part of the party!!! /s

I thought I saw him in maybe the 3rd quarter in the slot blocking for one of the WR screens that didn't get much, maybe one or two yards.
September 14th, 2015 at 11:30 AM ^
Power running and strong defense. Michigan football is back!
September 14th, 2015 at 11:33 AM ^
I'm not sure if Peppers got a "real" play on offense, but he was at running back for the final kneel down.
Edit: replied to the wrong comment.

I'd like to see that formation more often.

Yeah, it was Wisconsin. They ran it on like 24 of 25 plays or something similar.

I for one really enjoyed being on the plus side of this attack. I remember seeing him at Stanford and being very jealous that they were not us and we were not them.
September 14th, 2015 at 1:25 PM ^
Gerhart and then Stepfan Taylor running the ball, multiple TEs to account for. Overloaded lines. Oh, and Andrew Luck. Damn.
September 14th, 2015 at 1:36 PM ^
To the extent that his "99%" comment was about any one player, it may have something to do with their senior running back, Storm Barrs-Woods (all-name team), who was expected to start but was then abruptly declared" not ready" by Andersen and only got three meaningless carries.
It doesn't appear as though it was anything "physical" hence maybe this guy is getting some doghouse time.
September 14th, 2015 at 2:11 PM ^
Andersen has been talking all week about the youth on the team. He wants the team to grow up and mature and stop using the "youth" excuse.
He did a ton of interviews or fluff pieces before the game and his message was always the same. This is no different.
He's talking about he age of the team and how young they are...he's consistently talked about how proud he is of the team, but how they need to mature and get better.
