Minick Update
A charge of drunk driving was filed against him yesterday. He is due to appear in court July 1st.
Is this the up to the Minick update?
Is this what they mean when saying, "he left it all on the field?"

Time for one of our favorite MGoBlog games....."GUESS THE BANNED POSTER"
Yes, today's contestant is Frogman2 who is giving away his prior presence with the old "bitch about content that was here before you existed" trap. Couple that with the fact he's a negative racist and well.....no telling WHO he might've been before he was banned.
But one thing we know for sure....guys like Frogman2 dont really every die. They just change screen names & avatars and continue to make life miserable for everyone else.
Negative racist sounds like a double negative, which I guess makes that person a positive.
I hate math.
So he's Achilles reincarnated?
I wonder what his BAC was and why it took almost 3 weeks to authorize a charge.
Because anything that has to do with indictments and punishments typically runs VERY slowly. When this happened to my sister charges took about a month and she didn't get a court date for almost nine months.
There're a lot of people getting hit for wrong-doing and only so much capacity to process the paperwork.
I know they were waiting on the blood test as well. Admittedly my familiarity with these laws is not great (I guess thankfully? I don't know) but I can see how it would take some time for these to process.
A little less than three weeks til the arraignment. It does call into question for me why Hackett/Harbaugh/whoever thought it was necessary to lift the suspension.
can vary widely. up here it might be 2 weeks in most cases. down where most of you are it wouldn't surprise me if the time is more like 4 weeks. and then the blood results have to join up to a report, be sent to some prosecutor's desk/computer, approved and/or ask for more information or investigation, and eventually get typed up in some office somewhere and sent to court. all that to say the delay is very standard, especially in bigger counties.
and not all the MSP labs handle all the same substances and evidence testing, and they also usually handle a smaller demographic area too.
Generally because they are waiting on a lab report. In some cases you want to the Blood alcohol content in advance to determine if the charge will be OWI or the new super drunk charge.
As I said at the time, you don't just refuse a breathalyzer for fun. He was drinking and knew he was probably over the legal limit (or even downright drunk). He can redeem himself, but this is really serious.
Too, I would think it would be much easier to contest breathalyzer test results than blood sent to a lab. I'm no Mgolawyer, but I would think the best advice to people in a situation like that would be to take the breathalyzer test.
in about 99.9% of the cases they will get a warrant and take your blood via vampire. the 1/2-1 hr delay will only help to lower your BAC by about .015% on average. meanwhile, your license is suspended for a year and the ability to get a 'hardship appeal' to get to drive during that year has been all but eliminated.
and yes, breath tests are easier to contest than the blood, but the blood has it's issues too. the MSP lab uses a b.s. error margin and uncertainty budget, calculated with faulty statistical methods.
a different outcome. HOPING that he was not drunk or impaired, but this doesn't look good. As Jimbo's first test of principles, I hope he takes the long view and treats this with the benefit of the program in mind and not just of his friend. Tough call, but if Minick is found guilty, he should channel his inner Bo and reinstate the suspension.
get suspended from thier livelyhood for a dui? Most people would suffer their fate at the hands of the law and any natural conseqeunces (professional driver implications). He has already served a suspension and will now have to face the financial and legal consequences of his decision.
Too many, too eager to cast stones.
So, he is getting a pension. Is job for Harbaugh is more like a hobby.

While lifting his suspension just before the charges were announced isn't a great look, I'm choosing to not care about this.
He'll probably plead guilty to a reduced charge and get sentenced to probation. Maybe mandatory AA meetings and some massive fines.
That's enough punishment in my book.
And after that he'll go back to reinforcing disciplinary standards on the team
hypocritical
You really can't hire a friend(who never worked in an AD or in football operations, and so questionable qualifications) and then give additional special treatment. Minick also lied to police about the circumstances of his one truck accident, said he was not drinking, refused the breathalyzer, and that another car ran him off the road. Might feel a bit different if had not added lying to drunk driving.

Do you know?
Minick was in the Marines for twenty years. He was in charge of men and all that comes with that. I'd say that makes him qualified as any.
You've gotten to the bottom of it and convicted him and look how easy it was. Lesson to be learned there. /s
But, you do realize that the vast majority of punishments in the world of sports happen long before any legal proceedings are completed.

Answer: No.
So why then should Minick be fired?
The argument is that since he's in a position of power, he ought to be held to a higher standard than those lower in the heirarchy (ie players)
People rightly want equal treatment when the hierachy is not held accountable for an act that would mean much trouble for masses. But here we have people openly advocating a different or inequal standard.
Which is it: Equality or inequality?
I personally don't think he should be cut loose either. I do find it strange the suspension was lifted before the charge came through.
I see your argument as well...and in between the two a whole lot of grey area.
I'm not saying that Minick shouldn't be fired. I'm saying that a standard needs to be established and followed. Harbaugh just set that standard for DUI. In a just culture everyone is held to the same standard.
I have no clue what he would do if a player stole a laptop because it hasn't happened yet.
then all are held accountable to the same standard no matter their position in life. This sliding scale approach that many love to apply inherently engenders animosity among members of a community because the implication is that others are permitted to get away with something whilst they are not. That is a crack in the foundation of your team. The standards have to be simple and applied to everyone with equal force.
seriousness of the alleged crime. A DUI should merit the same response no matter who on the team did it. It's a serious act that goes beyond the "greater responsibility with great standards" argument you put forth. Any person who committs such an act on the team should be held to the same standards because the position of a person on the team does not alter the seriousness of the act itself.
If we were talking about theft of crab legs then yeah, I could see your point. But not here. Not when drunk driving is the cause of 10,000 deaths each year.
Because if a player did this he SHOULD be off the team.
is a hypocrite sometimes.
People make mistakes. Harbaugh got a DUI in 05. Say that never happened, and instead he gets one this November. Should Michigan fire him?
If it is merely a DUI - no.
If it's a DUI, combined with a one car accident, combined with saying he was not drinking, combined with refusing the breathalyzer, and combined with a false claim that another car ran him off the road... Yeah, I think so.
These people have already compromised their supposed "standards" by embracing a coach who has a DUI on his record.
If Minick should be gone then it follows that Harbaugh ought to as well if we are applying the standard equitably.
