And the really chickenshit thing is that they just called a regular foul on him, until they saw that the Purdue guy had a bloody nose. Then it suddenly got upgraded into a double tech. Blood = auto ejection?

I may have my maize and blue tinted glasses on but that was a fucking terrible call. I can see a foul but an ejection? They'd been mugging Harris the entire game too, I don't know what the hell they expect. I don't want the Big 10 to turn into the NBA, but they need to start protecting the skill players a little better if they want to improve their reputation as a conference. Five fouls in the first half for Purdue with the kind of defense they were playing??? I will be so fucking pissed if we end of blowing this game because of this.

I stopped watching after that. Basketball (in general) is losing my respect. What a stupid ejection. Sure, a call a foul, but don't eject him. What is he supposed to do, never bring the ball in front of his body quickly? Stuff like that happens... They just threw him out because he was bleeding.

That was an awful call. What Manny did was swing through with his arms, high. The thing is, USUALLY, a good defender is up on you in the CROUCHED position when you are 25 feet from the basket, as the greatest risk at that point is the player with the ball (and especially Manny) driving past you to the basket. (Because, you know, umm...25 footers with a hand in your face are generally not the way to go, although we seem to shoot our fair share. I digress)
So, first of all, what Manny did was completely in the normal course of what one would do in that instance. Secondly, as you can see, there was absolutely no malicious intent; Manny himself seemed miffed a foul had even been called on him. Third, the fact that this little bitch rolled around on the floor, well, that was weak. Fourth, it wasn't until he rolled over and the blood was apparent that the referee got all hot and bothered and started bitching at JB, then changing it to a flagrant.
It was just a terrible, reactionary call. The weakest ejection I have ever seen in a U of M big ten game. Such bullshit.
Also, lost in all of this is how terribly that call affected our squad. Yeah, okay, Manny wasn't playing great. However, his rebounding and defense especially were what was most missed. Oh, and the fact that he is our best penetrator. Jeeezus.
Only upside to this game: JB giving Jevohn some run. Too bad it will likely end once Novak comes back. Also. . . milk carton: DeShawn Sims. Where you at, Peedi?

Point is, when a guy is up on you, crouched, as you would normally expect a defender to be in that situation, swinging through with your arms/elbows is the most effective and proper way to rotate your torso and turn your hips.

It's hard to see any contact whatsoever, I'm not entirely sure that Kramer didn't bash his face on the ground.
Regardless, even if there was contact, that sort of thing happens in basketball all the time! It is a foul, nothing more. Somehow Kellogg and Lundquist thought ejection was warranted, but at least the ESPN analysts (Gottlieb and Brennan) realize it was ridiculous...

I loved how Kellogg (who pretty much epitomizes the spineless commentator who won't go against the referees) went out of his way to stress that he didn't think there was any malicious intent, but that the ejection was justified anyway. Because you know, guys get ejected for inadvertent contact ALL the time.

getting hacked out there today. anyone that touched the ball from michigan got hacked. i watch cj lee get pushed in the back while he was going for a rebound and nothing. but a purdue player comes down the floor and a michigan player brushes up against him, its a foul.... it was like that in the osu game wed night until JB took a tech.
i don't even want to watch it anymore.
if they don't right the ship fast there will be no NCAA's and no NIT.

Purdue plays defense like the mid-90s Knicks. If you foul on every possession, the refs don't call most of them, they just let you play and get away with all that contact. NBA refs wouldn't stand up to it back in the day, so there's no way college refs will. If they just called all those as fouls, they'd have to find a way to play within the rules, but until the refs call it, they won't bother because it works for them.
Frankly, what Manny did was far less egregious than what Krabbenhoft did to a Purdue guy the other night, and Krabbenhoft didn't even get called for a foul on the play, a blatant forearm shiver to the face on a screen.

The most dissapointing part was that we were finally playing like an NCAA tourney team for the first in a while and were going to win until the manny ejection. We prolly have a better chance winning at UCONN next week with Big East refs. Hopefully this pisses off the whole team as much as it has pissed all of us off and the team plays inspired ball the rest of the season. Of course this could have an extremely negative effect and Manny could become even more frustrated.

I don't watch much NCAA basketball outside of Michigan games (I much prefer NBA basketball). I understand that NCAA is not supposed to be as physical as the NBA. But seriously what the fuck was that?? That was not even a flagrant one foul. The guy started bleeding and all of a sudden its an ejection? Then after that, Michigan is getting called for a goddamn foul on every defensive series. Total bullshit.

Per Kramer - a dumb phrase that I'm surprised his coach let slip. It sounds as arrogant as it is, and totally negates the fact that, well, Purdue is known around the Big 10 as one of the more "aggressive" teams.
Reminds me of Paul Pierce last year in the NBA finals. The guy acted like he was shot, was carted off to the locker room, then "miraculously" comes back a few minutes later. And watching the clip on ESPN.com, it doesn't even look like Manny hit him hard. If anything, it was an offensive foul that may have led to a broken nose. As others commented, he could have actually busted his nose when he hit the ground.
Either way, a horribly officiated game. This team is headed for the NIT, which is fine by me, but I'd rather see them lose against better teams, not against equal teams with an assist from the refs.

Purdue represents everything that's wrong with the Big 10. They clutch and grab relentlessly on defense and then flop when an opponent makes an aggressive move. They succeed in this style because of the way the Big 10 is officiated. They got fucking blown out by every respectable non-conference team they played. They will get a high seed in the NCAA Tournament because of their conference record and proceed to get embarassed in the first round by a mid-major. Mark it down. Guess what Kramer, St. Mary's, Missouri State, or Slippery Rock Tech won't care if you don't to retaliate when they're running a fucking lay-up line on you in March. What a joke.
