Kyle Prater '10 has cut his list to 10 schools.

Gentlepersons: Let's stop talking about Mike Cox for a second. Kyle Prater, from Illinois, who is currently rated the number 10 overall recruit, and the #1 wide receiver (well, 1A behind Ricardo Miller, since Miller's pad level is probably lower), has made his initial cut to ten schools public today. Attributions to Scout, as well as the Notre Dame board: http://www.irishenvy.com/forums/2010-recruiting-profiles/41264-10-il-wr… which pasted the following information without link or attribution: Illinois Oklahoma (he went to the spring game and laminated his offer letter.) USC Michigan Tennessee Alabama Auburn Missouri Miami Our Lady of South Bend Based on recruiting rules of offer lists, it's obvious we're swimming with the big boys with Mr. Prater. Go get him Coach Rod.

Yeah, but while he was at the BBQ he made some friends, and even apparently stuck around after to play catch with Gardner. So, one can hope that a few of the current commits work on getting this young man up here.

Awww, come on. You made me grin with "..we're swimming with the big boys..". A kind of proud grin. I hate that about your post...the cruel reminder that we are not currently one of the "big boys" and we only swim with them when we have somehow snuck into their pool.

I was referring more to the OP and some comments from the state of recruiting thread; I got the gist of your comment was replying in agreement - we are down in status, down in the polls, but we are still one of the "big boys" in terms of recruiting, in terms of program, in terms of fan culture, in terms of overall college football "awe" (how to define that, I am not sure) - like Miami still is, like ND still is, etc. etc.

but it's a LOOOOOOONG way for these blue chippers. June? C'mon, it'll be a good 8 or 9 MONTHS before he settles on a college. Although this is a good start, I think its too early to start pissing myself with excitement.

Once again, even with all the WR commitments, we have still been offering WRs (Adrian Coxson and Andrew Carswell come to mind), so the coaches clearly aren't completely satisfied with their WR haul yet. I'm guessing that's because they want one of the current commits to move to defense (or de-commit).

who were not there on signing day, for various reasons. I also wonder if RR is factoring this into his recruiting as well (I tried to make this point on MDan's thread, probably not too successfully). If we do get a high-profile WR commit or two, then some of the lower-rated verbals may decide to look at other programs (and they probably would not be discouraged to do this). Given last year and what seems to be an increasing trend, I would be very surprised if all (or all but 1) of those on the commitment list are still there come January.

If UM doesn't place any importance on a down field passing game in '09, you won't have to worry about Prater. Tate having a good year throwing the ball will go a long way in the minds of these top recruits.

the ball effectively this year will definitely help land some top recruits. I think Gardner continuing to camp is a great thing for us as well. Not only will it help him improve, but should help to make contacts with other guys and help RR recruit.
