Cowboy Classic Tickets update
No official confirmation, but WTKA said this morning that all of the tickets in the initial allotment for the Cowboy Classic have been sold out. If it's true it really sucks, normal season ticket holders and the Public never even got a chance to buy any. Hopefully the school can get more or something

Interesting that this is selling so much better than any of the BCS bowls did this past year.
February 6th, 2012 at 10:46 AM ^
I don't really think so.
It's Michigan vs. Alabama on Labor Day weekend.
It's two of the biggest fanbases in college football playing a game scheduled a year-and-a-half in advance when both are expected to be good on a 3-day season-opening weekend at the most prominent pro football stadium in the country.
BCS games are scheduled 4 weeks in advance during what is already one of the busiest travel seasons of the year and oftentimes consist of stinker matchups, and often those stinker matchups consist of conference title losers whose fans already went to the conference championship game (see VaTech this year, Georgia and Bama in years past, any game with the ACC and Big East...)
February 6th, 2012 at 11:01 AM ^
Maybe "stinker matchups" was one of the main but sublte points in his comment? Maybe Michgan and Alabama being a better matchup than any of those in the BCS bowls, including the Sham-pionship, was one of the points implied in his comment.
People who follow big programs and want to go to bowl games always assume that their teams are going to make it to one of the big games.
The main problem, except for the BCS being a tired old joke that we've all heard a thousand times, is the scheduling of games after NYD. They should have kept all of the major bowls on the holiday. It's a lot easier to take Jan 2 as an extra day off than it is to take two or three in the first week of January.
So, yes, it's quite interesting that Michigan-Alabama is selling a lot better than the BCS bowls. If anything, they should be selling slower becuase people have a lot more time between when the tickets went on sale and when the game will actually be played. This is a testament to both fanbases.
February 6th, 2012 at 12:55 PM ^
Even the best BCS at-large matchups often don't sell out. The timing is the biggest hurdle. You have to ask tens of thousands of people to travel on, at most, a month's notice.
February 6th, 2012 at 1:03 PM ^
The bowls dont care if people travel to them. The schools are mandated to purchace an allotment of tickets so the bowls make their money. the poeple losing out on it are the fans and the schools.
the bowls also get more media money and higher shares for having the game on their own day. so until the attendance is EXTREMELY low to the point that fans start backlashing they will not care and will simply increase the alotment the schools have to buy in order to accept the bid.
this is why the bowl system is broken and why a +1 wouldnt work (but its a baby step to an eventual playoff)
good luck getting college students and fans to travel across the country in back to back weeks AFTER semester has started for a lot of schools AND after they have already traveled to conference championshiop games and tickets being as expensive as they are to begin with.
February 6th, 2012 at 1:41 PM ^
and this why we need a playoff. UM would have no problem selling out a playoff game in Michigan Stadium. It seems easy to everyone but the BCS.
February 6th, 2012 at 2:25 PM ^
first, Bama v Michigan is a better matchup than Bama v LSU? You are being serious? And the biggest problem with ticket sales is people being "able to take 2 or 3 days off" of work? Come on. If you have 2-4k to drop on a football trip, you can take off work for 2 days. I think the main problem with BCS games, especially ones that can't sell out, is that the generally have crappy teams in them who didn't really deserve any type of special bowl. Va Tech for instance...got murdered in their last game yet expected fans to shell out a few grand to go see them play again? Come on. It's that the also-ran BCS games mean nothing. If each BCS game meant a potential birth into the next round of a playoff, each one would sell out in a heart beat. Michigan v Bama is a hot ticket because both teams have everything to play for at that point versus Va Tech playing Michigan for a pride trophy and tshirt sales.
February 6th, 2012 at 10:26 AM ^
I wonder how many student tickets are being made available, I really want to make sure I get some. Anybody have the inside info on when students can get tickets?
February 6th, 2012 at 10:39 AM ^
You should get an email after you sign up for next year's student tickets
February 6th, 2012 at 12:27 PM ^
By some do you mean one? I don't think students can get multiple tickets.
February 6th, 2012 at 12:36 PM ^
"Michigan student season ticket holders will be able to purchase a ticket as part of the regular away game process in April. There is a limit of one (1) ticket per student, and student tickets will be limited"
February 6th, 2012 at 1:51 PM ^
Yeah I meant one but i'm going with some friends, hence the some, just kind of a mistake and thanks for the info, Hopefully as a senior I won't have too much trouble getting a ticket.
February 6th, 2012 at 10:28 AM ^
Define "normal season ticket holder."
February 6th, 2012 at 10:32 AM ^
I'm going to go WAY out on the limb here and make a guess the OP is defining "normal season ticket holder" as........the OP.
Just a hunch.
February 6th, 2012 at 10:36 AM ^
I just meant the people who aren't donors to the Victors Club and have no "Priority Points" or whatever they are
February 6th, 2012 at 10:44 AM ^
how you can have season tickets without priority points? I thought that was how the university determined season tickets now. Even if you were already a season ticket holder, I thought that the points were awarded and back tracked for each year of having season tickets back to 94. So im not sure how someone currently could have season tickets without any priority points. Just curious if someone knows...
February 6th, 2012 at 11:16 AM ^
However, you're priority points aren't activated unless you contribute at least $100 to the Victor's Club each year. If you have a PSD, then this is automatic. However, there are some people with season tickets in the endzone who are grandfathered in from having to pay the PSD, myself included. My priority points were only activated after I donated $100 to the scholarship fund....... which I'm glad I did as I purchased 4 tickets to the Bama game this morning.
February 6th, 2012 at 10:45 AM ^
Because of the Preferred Seat Donation, the only people who may not have Priority Points are those who have End Zone Season tickets that were Season Ticket Holders before 2005. Otherwise everyone should have some number of Priority Points and should have fell into the slotting for tickets.
Also, I know this is true for the Suites for the game, but not positive on other seats. Season ticket holders for the Cowboys had first right of refusal for the Suites, so that could have easily taken up a lot of tickets. If you had Lions season tickets and got offered another game between, for instance, USC and LSU, why wouldn't you go?
February 6th, 2012 at 10:46 AM ^
thanks for the info!
February 6th, 2012 at 10:30 AM ^
Define "initial allotment."
February 6th, 2012 at 10:34 AM ^
We got 25,000 tickets to start off
February 6th, 2012 at 10:48 AM ^
Thanks! Since Cowboys Stadium seats 80,000, there's presumably some room for a secondary allotment to both us and 'Bama (of at least ~10,000 each)
February 6th, 2012 at 10:51 AM ^
Cowboy Stadium seats over 100,000. If we got 25 and Bama got 25, when and where do we get our hands on the 50,000 remaining tickets?
February 6th, 2012 at 10:56 AM ^
Maximum capacity, including standing room, is 110,000. *Seating* is only 80,000.
February 6th, 2012 at 12:28 PM ^
So are you saying that they are not going to sell the 30,000 other tickets, I'm sorry Jerry Jones will be selling every last ticket available. So now my question is, where are the other 60,000 tickets and where do I get them?
February 7th, 2012 at 11:37 AM ^
When they had that record crowd right away they counted people in an 'corral-like' area outside of the stadium where they watched on bigscreens. They had access to the concourse, but not to Standing Room Only Sections within view of the field.
February 6th, 2012 at 10:35 AM ^
Today's the first day I could order based on my points and they still have $125 seats available. It sucks they don't have anything better left, but it's better than not going at all.
February 6th, 2012 at 10:37 AM ^
MSU can't even sell out their own stadium. Take that Dantonio.
February 6th, 2012 at 10:37 AM ^
I was just on MGoBlue.com and it is NOT sold out. There are still $125 seats available.
February 6th, 2012 at 10:37 AM ^
Damn, maybe this was a good investment after all? I had them in my cart and it took me 5 minutes to figure out if I wanted to purchase them or not.
February 6th, 2012 at 12:57 PM ^
If you can get them for face value, do it. Do not expect this game to be an easy ticket.
February 6th, 2012 at 10:47 AM ^
I got 4 this morning. Based on PP I would assume the largest number of season ticket holders got access today, and I wouldn't be surprised if they sold out pretty soon.
February 6th, 2012 at 11:05 AM ^
Of course the AD is pumping these tickets up but I find it hard to believe that the tickets will be scarce - especially at that price with that capacity.
February 6th, 2012 at 11:08 AM ^
I tried earlier and was offered seats in PL4, not a section of the stadium.
Does anyone know what that means or if you do purchase tickets does it show which section you're in?
February 6th, 2012 at 11:36 AM ^
There is a link to the seating chart on the event page of mgoblue.com. Your seats are in the upper deck (400 sections).
February 6th, 2012 at 11:08 AM ^
I was able to get some this morning still, so I do not believe they are sold out.
On another note, look who is gracing the ticket page at http://www.mgoblue.com/tickets/home.html
February 6th, 2012 at 11:12 AM ^
Look at all the tickets on sale already at prices around $500 per seat. Looks like those who inventory such things and sell them agree with the Hardware Sushi above that it will be a better investment than most college tickets.......
The market is already started putting a hefty premium on these.....
February 6th, 2012 at 11:12 AM ^
I'm contemplating going to the game...does anyone have any reccomendations for places/areas to stay in Dallas. Should I look for something near the stadium or go for dowton Dallas, and rent a car to get to the game?
February 6th, 2012 at 2:12 PM ^
Really, stay anywhere you want just don't stay in Arlington. Definitely stay in either Dallas or Fort Worth (whichever one you want to visit) and rent a car. You should be able to get a decent deal on hotwire for the car and as for the hotel - you really can pick whatever the heck you want. 1 piece of advice though - traffic coming from Dallas is much worse than traffic coming from FW.
February 6th, 2012 at 11:27 AM ^
As of 11:25AM, I logged on and put 4 in my cart. The PL4 is the price level, not a section. The other three levels are shown as unavailable, sold out and sold out, respectively. There is also a section map showing the M allotment, which includes 2 sections shown as students - note that student tickets are shown as $50 for those of you much younger than I.
February 6th, 2012 at 11:29 AM ^
YOU ARE BIDDING ON 2 OF 20 SEATS LOCATED IN THE UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN ALLOTMENT FOR THE KICK-OFF CLASSIC TO BE PLAYED AT COWBOY STADIUM IN ARLINGTON, TEXAS ON SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 1ST, 2012. A QUANTITY OF 2 MEANS 2X2=4 TICKETS TOTAL. TICKETS WILL BE SHIPPED VIA USPS PRIORITY MAIL WITH CONFIRMATION IN EARLY AUGUST. IF, IN THE EVENT, THERE IS OVER-SUBSCRIPTION AND THE UNIVERSITY DOES NOT FULFILL MY TICKET ORDER, YOU WILL RECEIVE A PROMPT, FULL REFUND. OTHERWISE, THE TICKETS WILL BE LOCATED IN THE 400 LEVEL AND ALL SALES ARE FINAL. PAYMENT IS DUE IMMEDIATELY VIA PAYPAL USING BUY IT NOW. GO BLUE!!!!!
wtf? You buy 20 tickets out of Michigan's allotment and then offer them up on Ebay so that non-Michigan people can purchase them?
February 6th, 2012 at 11:35 AM ^
That's just some bull-shit right there!!! They should've put a max of 8 per person!
FERGODSAKES!
February 6th, 2012 at 11:49 AM ^
I wouldn't have thought somone with Victors' club access would need to scalp tickets. Maybe its like some donor's asshole brother that told him he had 19 friends that wanted to go.
February 6th, 2012 at 11:39 AM ^
I'm a regular season ticket holder and got 3 tickets this morning. I was online at 8:29 clicking until it allowed me to buy them.
February 6th, 2012 at 11:42 AM ^
I was able to get 4. I needed 6, so I went back and added 2 additional tix after the fact. The system allowed me to add them to my cart, but I didn't submit to purchase. Curious: Was anyone with less than 50 priority points able to get more than 4 this morning?
February 6th, 2012 at 12:55 PM ^
I am a season ticket holder with priority points that are not active. When I log on to my account and try to purchase tickets it does not allow me. On Feb 9th when tickets are made available for someone in my situation I assume when I log on that there will be and active link I can click on to purchase tickets.....Right?
February 6th, 2012 at 12:15 PM ^
Per MGoBlue.com, there is 4 ticket limit for those of us with more than 1 point, but less than 50 - there was no limit for those with 50+. For what it's worth, football letter winners had a max of 8. http://www.mgoblue.com/tickets/fbl-cowboys-classic.html
February 6th, 2012 at 12:22 PM ^
but my point was that the system allowed me to add more tickets to my cart after I had purchased the initial 4. I was just curious if anyone else saw or attempted to get more than what they stated was the limit of 4.
February 6th, 2012 at 12:35 PM ^
If you attempt to exceed the limits. Your second or subsequent orders will later be refunded and not permitted by the ticket office. Back in 2009/10 season you could still get around the limit. But not anymore. I remember trying to get more tickets for the Nebraska game last year... and I was denied that order.
February 6th, 2012 at 12:36 PM ^
I should note that my order last year went through, but then was "returned" withing a day or two...
