jon teske is the big sleep

3/5/2020 – Michigan 82, Nebraska 58 – 19-11, 10-9 Big Ten

I had a conversation about basketball with a cousin of mine who went to Kentucky once; I asked him if it was weird that there was an entirely new team every year. He looked at me like I was crazy. This was the natural way of things at Kentucky. To have guys come back was weird. Even the ones who didn't do anything, like Charles Matthews, had to find new homes because there was always another wave of genetic lottery winners on the way.

Things discussed:

  • Operation Paper Clip, fake NBA spies, most useless jobs in sports
  • Charles: attack that guy!
  • I want to see the flopping section of practice. Why aren't referees fouling Brad Davison out in three minutes?
  • Maybe get that turnaround jumper going for Matthews again?
  • Is Teske the best center to either side of the Fabs?
  • The new assistants: Campanile is well-liked but it's Don Brown's D.
  • Terry Mills calls in to defend himself vs Teske.

1/22/2019 – Michigan 59, Minnesota 57 – 18-1, 7-1 Big Ten

Last night game was the season in microcosm, although the parts weren't quite the right length. First: Michigan starts 3/20 from the field and looks generally appalling, like they did in sub-1 PPP outings against Norfolk State and Holy Cross. Michigan then gets it together, turning a nine-point deficit into a 13 point lead over the course of about 20 minutes. This is the bit where they nuke a couple of top 25 teams—we'll call that the 23-3 run—and outpace various others by double digits.
