2019-20 rutgers #2

Things discussed:

  • Rutgers has an athletic team that can't shoot the ball.
  • Trevion Williams is the right guy for Austin Davis to body up. Put him on a brute.
  • Eli changes hair to look like X, plays like X
  • Can Michigan go to Cleveland?
  • Wisconsin: bad matchup for Michigan because they're three-dependent. Micah Potter has been a monster (also ironic people were complaining about King's transfer like two days after Potter became eligible from his Ohio State transfer)
  • Ohio State: How do those pieces fit together so well?
  • Craig: Michigan got a fair whistle at Purdue—the awful whistle disappeared after the first 8 games (by which point M had played 6) but Michigan still can't get a call at home—Ohio State game was one of the most ridiculous stripe games of the year. Ohio State has some crazy kind officiating (FYI the director of basketball who oversees the officials is a former OSU coach.)
  • Dr. Anderson: The guy who fired Dr. A was surprised decades later that the guy still had a job at Michigan. Athletic Dept. doesn't choose their doctors so someone at the university reassigned the guy. Who knew what when?
  • Craig: Was told if people knew, it wasn't at the higher levels.
  • Josh Christopher/Hunter Dickinson: Dickinson's defense has come around, he can shoot, can he go right? Christopher is uber athletic. Giant Dosunmu, throw out his high school numbers because there's no coaching at Mayfair.

1. Hoops vs Purdue

starts at 1:00

Matt Painter goes full Tom Izzo for 2 and a half minutes, including a foul with 6 seconds left. Before foul time they were 15/40 on two's, 4/16 on threes includes the late one. Playing Williams straight-up with Davis worked: he's 5/16 before nonsense time. Thread of dig-downs made him pick up his dribble. Return games (nisi ref job at Iowa) have been much better strategically. Hot hand effect: Purdue goes under X and gets away with it, but the rest of the guys had beautiful assists too. DDJ, Franz coming on, Franz is two days younger and far ahead of where Caris was at this point of his career.

Things discussed:

  • Rutgers is a terrible shooting team. They needed half a dozen ludicrous shots to get to inefficient.
  • The Castleton'ing.
  • IU: hard to judge because Indiana's coaching was so bad. If there's one school that ought to be firing their coach right away and hiring John Beilein, it's Indiana.
  • Craig: Indiana game was their best of the season. IU's backcourt can't play man—whenever they tried something other than the high hedge X was killing them with they were running into each other.
  • How far up is Michigan trending: top four?
  • Brian sexy reads Jacob Young's stat line after the guy talked crap at X all night.
  • Caller: What to do with Beilein? Cleveland/Dan Gilbert have a terrible culture. The Cavs are high schoolers who rejected an adult.
  • Andre Drummond, nobody is picking up that player option.
  • Beilein walked into moronic management. What did he do at Michigan: he was careful about picking players based on their personality.
  • INCREDIBLE GOLLUM IMPERSONATION AT 29:00
  • Dantonio versus the Photo.

not like 80s music, like putting weird things together and having it work... okay like 80s music

two bigs ftw

while Rutgers is undefeated at the RAC, Michigan could be their toughest home test yet, and they've essentially beaten RU on the road already
