He practically broke out his checkbook during the press conference. The apparent lack of interest throughout the country coupled with DB's evident lack of acumen is very disheartening at this point.
First, Michigan couldn't even get an interview from a coach from NW. A Nebraska coach went out of his way to show disinterest in a rumor. The most prized alumnus working turns down the keys to the kingdom. And now an MWC coach might spurn Michigan for Stanford. Stanford!
When will the DB realize what a toxic environment the Michigan coaching job is immersed in?
I (for one) wasn't pissed while they were playing for a spot in the NC. It wasn't until January that year...when I was snapped back into reality watching them, one game removed from a championship, getting waxed yet again in Pasadena by USC.
Watching Dwayne Jarrett hand Willis Barringer the ball after repeatedly catching it right in his face woke me up to the fact that, yes, Lloyd needs to ride off now...
Tressel doesn't seem to be under any illusions as to who his constituency is:
"You felt like it's been a nine-year honeymoon?" he repeated on Tuesday. "You must not have liked your honeymoon."
AND...
"When I read some of them I feel terrible for them because there's no way they're happy," he said. "They've got to be some of the most unhappy people in the world, and I feel bad because we just made them less happy, and I hate to be a part of making someone less happy. I mean, they're already miserable."
I root for the Big Ten during bowl season EXCEPT when OSU is playing for a national championship. That's where I draw the line.
I did enjoy watching them run laps around ND in '05...
I for one couldn't care less about the perception of the conference. I'll go as far as to say I don't care how the rest of the Big Ten teams perform on a week to week basis.
Nobody says that the perception of the Pac-10 makes USC look bad. That's because they kick ass and dominate their bowl games.
All I want is for Michigan to WIN GAMES. The rest of the conference can fend for themselves.
It's a .500 road trip. Not the end of the world.
It's like their west coast swing; I expected to get 2 from Oakland and wanted one from the Angels. The opposite happened but they still finished .500 on the trip.
Considering their road record for the season, I'll take it.
"Come back to me when you have complaints about schools buying players, getting cash and clothing, kids cheating on tests.Give me a break, criticizing an athlete for sweating, working hard, spending time to perform at a higher level! That is a joke!"
I just posted this. That was awesome...
Mod Edit:
Since you posted at the same time, but this got the comments, I'll just repost your thread info here as it's still an excellent description:
For those not watching ESPN at the moment, Rece Davis just told Rodriguez haters in Ann Arbor/Wolverine Nation to chill and let Coach Rodriguez to do his job and win--which he most assuredly will do.
He compared it to Alabama waiting for the right "Alabama Man" to run the show until they found the right "Man" to do it in Saban.
Wow, did not see this coming from the worldwide leader...
I can still hear the detractors in stereo: "Just because everyone else does it doesn't make it right." The article is a step in the right direction, objectively speaking.
Countable vs. Non-countable hours would be the real wet blanket on all this.
In all seriousness, last year's team (the most abysmal in decades) was within 2 points of Utah. The same Utah that finished undefeated and punked Bama in their bowl game.
There's no way that WMU is better than Utah and no way this M team is worse than last year's.
I went to the San Diego State game that year and remember saying: "Hmmm I guess Gutierrez is still hurt. Where's David Underwood and who the hell is Mike Hart?"
Good times, good times...
