Vlad Goldin and Danny Wolf officially announced
Apologies if not post-worthy, but the men’s basketball instagram page has put out official welcome posts for Wolf and Goldin.
Of note, Wolf is listed as a forward while Goldin is listed as center. I know it was speculated that Wolf would primarily be the backup center with some limited time at 4.
Is this an indication that they’ll be on the floor together more than originally expected?
At this stage I would assume any listing is a placeholder. These players haven't even scrimmaged together yet.
Feel free to endlessly speculate, though. It's what this site do.
I’m sure you’re right. I’d just been used to seeing Wolf referred to as a center on 247 and in articles, so it caught my eye in the post.
That's probably true, but I'd guess that the placeholders are at least somewhat informed by the tentative plan Dusty & Co have at the moment.
Speculation is what I do.
"Excellent" - C. Montgomery Burns -- Timofey Tebro.
I sure hope they are on the floor together.
Nobody messes with the Goldin Wolf.
Correct.
Loved Danny Wolf in "I Think You Should Leave"
Haha I thought this exact thing when I saw his pic.
Basketball Crooner! They are trying to make it look fake!
DUSTY MAY STARTED ON WEDNESDAY
Wolf listed as a forward and Goldin a center, I guess that answers our question of Wolf playing the 4, sorry Brian...
Dusty inventing a new position , the 4 1/2
Seeing them on the floor may have less to do with their height than how they work together. It's not easy to develop effective biplay on the offensive end between two guys who occupy so much space.
Wolf played a lot on the perimeter in the 2 1/2 games I saw him play. I don’t remember seeing Goldin play, but I think he’s more of the back to the basket guy.
Wolf was a 0.345 shooter from 3 on 2.6 attempts per game. I actually think he’s closer to Tschetter than Goldin.
How they’re going to work together on the defensive end is the bigger question. I’d use a 3-2 zone and rotate the perimeter defenders through frequently to keep them fresh, because that defense requires a lot of movement by them.
Good take, better than mine.
Webber and Howard had a great high-low game going, with Juwan near the free throw line. I don't think Dusty's gonna run that, though.
That’s the idea, though, only extend Wolf out to the three point line, creating even more space. I’ll go even further back. This is like Isiah running the pick-and-pop with Laimbeer or drawing the interior defense to him and dishing to James “Buddha” Edwards.
Or it could be a typo, placeholder, honest mistake, et cetera. It proves nothing, sorry WrestlingCoach.
Or it could be intentional and accurate, sorry tater tot....wtf is the point of your response exactly? I read words on things because that is what those things say.
Because you are assuming that a guy who has never played a snap at Michigan will play 4 because of a recruiting graphic and are seemingly gloating about how it makes you right over Brian.
I will wait for better proof like actual playing time.
Dang they snap in basketball now? That's new I guess...I did not assume, they typed it on there buddy, not gloating either, simply pointing out what the university put on their announcement since it might be relevant to what Brian and everyone here has been discussing. You don't think Dusty is detail oriented to the point of intentionally listing Wolf as a forward apparently, everything he has done so far tells me he is very intentional about what he does. Seems like the listing in itself is kind of evidence since the Michigan basketball program itself created and posted it. I have no dog in this fight, just thought it was interesting that it said forward and not center since everyone has been adamant that he Wolf will be exclusively a center, have a good Friday homeskillet.
I don't think Dusty May has much, if anything, to do with the exact terminology of an instagram post. I think its far more likely whoever threw the graphic together went with the term forward than the head basketball coach sitting him down and telling him the exact designation and role he sees for Wolf.
How about we split the internet difference and admit we don't know.
Have you listened to his recent press conference or the MGoRoudtable? Who exactly did you think was instructing the media release team and designating positions?
I am tepidly excited for basketball season.
Tofu, maybe, not meat.
It is hard not to be excited for basketball. ESPN bracketology has us as a 7 seed in next year's tournament. The though of playing in the NCAA tournment that soon is crazy after this past season.
It's post-worthy! Thanks! :)
I bet Vlad is popular with the ladies
Ummmmm.....
Not really. He spent a lot of money on 900 numbers in the late 80s.
Wow, dat matching coat and bag, dat jumpsuit. Different times. . .
Pootie's disco period.
I never understood why they have two of the person in the same photo. Just weird to me, maybe a subtle psychology trick in recruiting.
They couldn’t decide if clapping or yelling was giving off the right vibe, so had to go with both.
I thought Goldin and Wolf could pass as twins for the first hour and 45 minutes of looking at the photo.
It's not just these two but been noticing the twin thing more often than not.
Technically, there are 5 of the same person in each image.
Looking at Vlad Goldin I can't help but notice a very slight resemblance.
Very nice!
Avatar checks out
wolf = weight room.
very nice. two 7-footers.
I was thinking we need to hire Goldin's S&C guy.
I was going to say something similar with a Camp Sanderson reference, but then remembered, "Oh, right ..."
Anyone heard a new name for the Strength & Conditioning program?
Pretty cool that Wolf grew up a Michigan fan and almost walked on to Michigan. Going to Yale was the right decision and was able to parlay his play into a full scholarship at Michigan.
The Michigan version of twin towers.
Resurrecting the Goldin Wolf from a 1927 game book
Brian is going to have an aneurysm seeing Wolf's position designation
Wolf will see time at the 4. Offensively, he fits at the 4, but defense is where there may be a potential issues. However in the B1G where there are teams who plays with two bigs on the floor, it's fine. I can see Wolf getting some PT at the 4 against Indiana, MSU, etc.
