Nate Marshall Has Committed to Michigan
Panic over Michigan's 2025 recruiting class can subside for a moment, as one of their top targets over the course of several DL coaches just committed to Lou Esposito and the Wolverines.
Marshall is a top-100 player to all the sites, and is near the 5-star cutoff to some.

The rankings will come down a bit as the class settles but right now we're looking at the fifth-highest rated freshman to come to Michigan since 2020 after Edwards, Will Johnson, McCarthy, and Derrick Moore. In fact Marshall draws a few comparisons to the rising junior star currently playing the "Heavy" edge position. Already close to 270 pounds, Marshall is coming in as an edge who can also function as a DL swingman (see also: Enow Etta and Cameron Brandt). Given the relative depth at tackle and edge, it's likely the Heavy depth chart will be responsible for filling the Jeter role of third DT in Michigan's 5-2 sets.
He has a basketball background and also plays some wildcat QB and receiver in Illinois Class 6A, in case you're wondering if Marshall has the requisite athleticism to remain outside.
Marshall was a priority recruit for Mike Elston, and his familiarity with Greg Scruggs might have played a role in that hiring. Miami (YTM) had Marshall on campus this month and was starting to gain confidence out Michigan's multiple coaching changes. But Esposito was also quite familiar with the Chicago star. It's a good sign for his recruiting chops that he was able to lock down Marshall at this point.
We'll have Alex Drain do some scouting and get back with a full hello. Michigan's 2025 class is now at four commits, but Marshall's was not the next name we expected to join it. Check back in a couple of months to see where they're at.

I think it'll be three weeks, not a couple of months. Recruits will now start to drop.

The concern trolls will be back at it tomorrow. They never take a break for more than a day or two, not even after a NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP.

I wonder how miserable Maizen was during the national title game and the aftermath. That man always found a way to be depressed about Michigan football in the face of glory.
As side note, beating out Miami (YTM) is a good sign after we've been hearing a lot the last few weeks about how M football is getting their NIL act together

I thought a RB commit would crack the seal, I’m glad to be wrong. Welcome aboard!!!〽️

Welcome, young man!
You're in for a good time... terrorize some squishy-soft ohio qb's for a few years and then go to the NFL in the 1st round.
I have forseen it!

Oh, and by the way... take a good look at that new jewelry a bunch of your new teammates are sportin'. Your mission is to get some of that.

Let's get the recruit train rolling.
Great pickup by the Michigan staff.
And welcome to the National Champion Michigan Wolverines, Nate! I look forward to you crushing OSU offensive players over the next several years.

He looks angry. I would prescribe a few group meetings at the QB to help with that.

The last three years have dramatically shown how important the offensive and defensive lines are. OSU and Washington had their QBs and pretty WR, but we beat them at the LOS. Really happy to see that recruiting success continue.
I mean as a D-line recruit why wouldn’t you want to come Michigan. The D-Line looks phenomenal. It looks like we have 8-10 players ready to help along the D-line.
For those who don’t know...
Fenwick Academy is a well known private Catholic high school in Oak Park, Illinois. (Immediately west of Chicago). LOTS of Chicagoland Catholics that live in the western suburbs (Suburban Cook County & DuPage County) send their kids there & it’s got a strong alumni network.
I’ve got several friends that live in Elmhurst (Eastern DuPage County—just across the border from Cook County) that either went to Fenwick themselves and/or send their kids to Fenwick now.
I’ve already received texts from 3 of them about the commitment news because they know I’m a huge Michigan fan, and they all say the same thing:
In addition to being a great athlete, they all say he’s a great kid too. Good teammate, good in the classroom, class act off the field, etc
Super excited to have him playing in Ann Arbor for the next few years!
