if you had just written JJ McCharthy I would have upvoted you
Damn
April 25th, 2024 at 11:11 PM ^
Yeah, who wants to face him once he gets acclimated to the NFL. He's the best qb in the draft. He's just a winner.
April 26th, 2024 at 12:08 AM ^
Dang, I swear the whole NFC North is making the playoffs next year.
Except the Bears. They’re continuing on the same path they were on with Fields. I expect Williams to constantly get sacked and spend most of his time on the field running for his life.
Yeah, the Lions better make the most of their window of opportunity the next 2-3 years. The Vikes with a seasoned JJ are going to be cooking.
April 26th, 2024 at 11:10 AM ^
I'm a Bears fan and the last thing I wanted to see was JJ in this division. If he acclimates well to the NFL (which I think he will), the Vikings are gonna be a bitch to play
They got themselves a WINNER!
April 25th, 2024 at 11:03 PM ^
So a rookie 1st round QB would typically get a 4 year contract, worth about 40 million, correct? Damn so happy for the kid, he´s already set for life! Go Blue!
No. About half that.
The #1 pick gets about $42 million.
For 2023:
No. 1: $41.2 million
No. 2: $39.4 million
No. 3: $38.2 million
No. 4: $36.9 million
No. 5: $34.5 million
No. 6: $30.4 million
No. 7: $27.02 million
No. 8: $23.7 million
No. 9: $23.5 million
No. 10: $22.6 million
No. 11: $21.2 million
That’s still set for life.
That depends on where longevity research takes us...and inflation.
The whole point of investments is to grow your money faster than the rate of inflation.
April 26th, 2024 at 11:01 AM ^
That’s a goal; not a given
April 26th, 2024 at 12:06 PM ^
True, but there are almost always fixed investments that will outpace inflation.
Depends on the size and cost of your entourage. Everyone knows you gotta make it rain in the club too. Life is expensive.
I feel sorry for the Falcons
Why? Penix may end up being the best qb in the draft especially with all of the weapons he’ll have to throw to.
4 season ending injuries. Doesn’t take hits well. Among other reasons
User name checks out...
Penix is fragile and old (for a rookie) and tends to fall apart under pressure.
Mahomes was 23 his rookie season Penix will be 24 stop it.
April 25th, 2024 at 10:03 PM ^
Yes, because it's totally reasonable to compare players to Mahomes.
April 25th, 2024 at 10:17 PM ^
Yes, because his age argument was stupid so you co-sign him by changing the subject
April 26th, 2024 at 12:23 AM ^
So did Brady and so does everyone. Pressure is affecting. That's why it's called pressure. And your comment also qualifies as a backhanded dig at 2023 Michigan by suggesting Penix faced ordinary pressure which made him fall apart which is what he will see in the NFL. M was not ordinary. And Penix's Joe Moore award-winning pass-blocking line got stuffed in a can nearly all game. Show me a QB who would've held up under that pressure. You can't. Not even Mahomes when your outstanding Center is still being driven into you like he's on a pilgrimage into your lap every snap.
downvoted every dissenting opinion but upvoted this one.
Because you actually used real world evidence to state your point. And it made sense.
April 26th, 2024 at 12:09 AM ^
That was mostly at Indiana; he played the last two years at Washington without missing any time, I think.
Michigan made him tap out and only sacked him once. He’ll play a D like we had last year on steroids every week. He throws a beautiful deep pass but has an awkward release. I like the young man and am glad to root for him and his story. But, Atlanta picked Bo Gentry. I was in shock tbh.
Sounds a lot like Tuttle.
April 26th, 2024 at 12:08 PM ^
Those season-ending injuries were also playing behind Indiana's offensive line, which historically may as well be trying to murder their own QB.
The Falcons also just gave Cousins a four year, $120 million deal. Penix is going to be 28 when that contract expires. You don’t spend a top 10 pick on a guy who can’t help you until 3-4 years down the line. Even if he’s ready before that, you’re on the hook for all that money you just gave to Cousins.
Atlanta still in a drunken stupor from the 28-3 debacle.
90 million is guaranteed and that’s through 2 seasons only. Penix will sit for a year then they’ll cut Kirk Cousins if they can’t find a trade partner.
April 25th, 2024 at 11:36 PM ^
They can't cut Cousins after one season without blowing a hole in their cap.
This was a bad pick any way you slice it.
April 26th, 2024 at 12:04 PM ^
You're saying they're paying Cousins $90 million for one year. And that's somehow not a mistake? Either the signing or the draft pick was a massive mistake. Maybe both.
April 26th, 2024 at 12:36 AM ^
Cousins' deal stings if they cut him after 1 year. What I don't understand is that signing Cousins says you're in win now mode. Why not use a top 10 pick on a guy who will help right away? Unless maybe there's concerns about his Achilles healing? Whatever, I'm happy the falcons pulled a sparty-no, Go Vikes! JJ to JJ all day
April 26th, 2024 at 12:27 PM ^
Belichick must have been laughing his ass off on set last night. I wanted to coach for those "ass clowns"???
I thought the national championship game was a pretty good example tbh. Complex coverages disguised reads, pressure really rattled him, makes questionable decisions etc.
April 25th, 2024 at 11:53 PM ^
Our defense is Penix's defense--nobody could hang with Mikey and the gang.
What makes it a bad pick is he went too high to a team that had no right drafting a QB.
April 26th, 2024 at 12:26 AM ^
Once again.. another backhanded dig at Minter and 2023 M. M was not ordinary! NO ONE HELD UP.
not a dig ….. but team 144 was one of the best defenses I have ever seen on a college football field.
Penix will be a bust. JJ will be proven to be far superior over time.
April 25th, 2024 at 10:21 PM ^
Jefferson, Addison, Hock> London, Pitts
April 25th, 2024 at 11:40 PM ^
FlaWolv, from the reaction to your post, I think your implication must have been JJ is trash instead of the reasonable and anodyne post you actually wrote
April 25th, 2024 at 11:59 PM ^
What weapons? By the time Penix is starting, Bijan will be on the downslope of his career, Pitts has been massively disappointing, and Drake London has just been ok his first two years. Even if Penix hits his relatively low ceiling, that franchise is so terribly managed right now.
April 26th, 2024 at 12:11 AM ^
Good take. Your boy looked like garbage against a NFL defense in the championship game despite having a first round receiver and first round left tackle.
April 26th, 2024 at 12:19 AM ^
He also went to a place that just signed a 4 year contract. ! Penix would’ve been better off in Denver or Raiders. And actually get on the field. If he has to wait 4 years , he will be 29 before. Playing
April 26th, 2024 at 11:41 AM ^
the hive mind is strong here!
I agree that Penix could be the best quarterback out of this years draft... He also may be broken once more and never play again. C'est la vie!
Living in ATL... all my falcons friends are wonderin wtf just happened.
