B1G coaches discuss Halloween Candy
So B1GNetwork's twitter account posted a video where they asked B1G coaches about Halloween candy. Best and worst, many calling out candy corn as horrible (I'm a fan, but whatever).
But the highlights are Bret Bielema admitting "do I look like a guy who has passed up a lot of candy?", and our own coach in as serious a tone and look as you can muster answered his favorite was Baby Ruth.

Thank you for saying Reese’s pb cups. Can’t believe I had to scroll as far down this comment thread as I did to find THE ONLY CORRECT ANSWER!

Without a doubt, nothing beats a Reese's Peanut butter cup....
Mounds and Almond Joys are also good choices....

Ugh, Necco wafers. They taste like they're made of chalk.
October 28th, 2022 at 12:35 PM ^
Sometimes I get Necco wafers and Tums mixed up.
October 28th, 2022 at 9:50 AM ^
Baby Ruth is a good choice, so is the "100 Grand".
FWIW, I've heard that the "100 Grand" bar is the candy of choice for the Bucks, every team in the SEC, and Clemson. Apparently, there's a "bulk purchase" option that those teams have taken advantage of for decades.

Candy corn WITH salted peanuts.
October 28th, 2022 at 10:45 AM ^
Sounds like a Payday.
October 28th, 2022 at 9:54 AM ^
Bad candy is like bad pizza for me, I can still eat it unfortunately 😂
October 28th, 2022 at 9:57 AM ^
Same, though since I like pretty much any candy I'd call it "mediocre candy" instead of bad candy. I won't go out of my way for it but if it's handy it's gone.
I think I'm glad I don't get many trick or treaters.
October 28th, 2022 at 10:00 AM ^
Most of you people have terrible taste in candy. Candy corn is good - not the best, but certainly worthy of a place on the shelf. It's raw sugar wrapped in sweetened wax! Peeps are AWESOME - sugar coated marshmallow, whats not to like!!!?? Although I can eat me some circus peanuts, I'll allow that they're not that good. Necco wafers are horrible and should be shot into the sun.
100 Grand is probably my favorite candy bar. But I also loves me some Heath, Mounds, and caramel Milky Way. I mean, I can put caramel on a steak... (I'm not going to, but I could, because they're both awesome.)
October 28th, 2022 at 10:30 AM ^
You near Charlottesville per chance?… I will have you over for steaks and caramel.
October 28th, 2022 at 10:56 AM ^
LOL!! Not too far, actually - Thornburg. Made popular as the I-95 exit for Lake Anna and merely 20 minutes north of Kings Dominion. It's a stop light that has a McDonald's and a Dairy Queen!
October 28th, 2022 at 11:23 AM ^
That used to be our "dinner" exit back in the day when driving from Fairfax to Chesapeake on many a Friday night to go visit the parents for the weekend

My wife LOVES peeps. Puts them in the microwave for ~10 seconds and then eats them right up.
Me....?

Candy Corn and Mounds bars. Both should be wiped from the face of the Earth. Packed onto a rocket ship and launched into the Sun, never to harm humanity ever again.
October 28th, 2022 at 10:19 AM ^
For anyone who hates Candy Corn, if you have a chance, try Jelly Belly's candy corn. That stuff is so much better than the usual stuff.
October 28th, 2022 at 10:23 AM ^
The best candy in the world is watchamacallits and I will not hear any other answer.
October 28th, 2022 at 10:33 AM ^
What is the name?
October 28th, 2022 at 10:45 AM ^
yeah I forgot, sorry. :)
October 28th, 2022 at 10:45 AM ^
$100,000 bars are within spitting distance. But they're essentially the bottom two layers of a Whatchamacallit I think.

Would Take Any of These: Baby Ruth, Ghirardelli Squares, Ferrero Rocher, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, Chunky, Nestle Crunch Bar, KitKat, Twix, Turtles, Snickers, Milky Way, Dove Bar, Hershey Bar, 100 Grand, 3 Musketeers, Red Twizzlers, M & Ms (all kinds), Reese’s Pieces, Butterfinger, PayDay, Milk Duds, Sour Patch Kids, Whoppers, Mr. Goodbar, York Peppermint Patty, Skittles, Raisinets, Goldenberg Peanut Chews, Haribo Starmix (UK version), Mike and Ike, Swedish Fish, Sno Caps
Would Eat Only in Desperation: Mounds, Almond Joy, Necco Wafers, Circus Peanuts, Candy Corn, Good & Plenty, Black Licorice, Lemonheads, Hot Tamales
Liked, But Discontinued: Reggie Bar (peanuts dipped in caramel and covered in chocolate), Reese’s Take 5 (mix of chocolate, peanuts, caramel, peanut butter, and pretzels), Oh Henry! (peanuts, caramel, fudge coated in chocolate)
October 28th, 2022 at 10:44 AM ^
Good & Plenty are the quintessential "stuck on a liferaft and there's no other candy left around" candy for me.
I'll eat them, but I won't like it (very much). A hair's breadth away from not being worth it.
October 28th, 2022 at 4:14 PM ^
The Take 5 is discontinued? Say it isn't so! That pretzel made it feel not completely unlike a snack,
October 28th, 2022 at 10:27 AM ^
I’m surprised Ferentz didn’t say his favorite is that unmarked black wrapper/orange wrapper candy. No name. No picture. No flair.
October 28th, 2022 at 10:32 AM ^
Maybe a hot take, but I don't get the people who HATE candy corn. Like is it my favorite? No, but it's just kinda soft and vaguely chewy and tastes like butter and sugar
October 28th, 2022 at 10:36 AM ^
What even is it? Nobody knows. It’s not even corn kernel shaped—there is some triangle shit happening. It’s the hot dog of candy. And not a good hot dog; we’re talking a desolate gas station, no brand hot dog sadly rolling on that grill over and over.
October 28th, 2022 at 11:01 AM ^
And yet... People eat those hot dogs (and other assorted 'items') on the 7-11 roller grills. I don't get it. But how does anything go wrong when sugar and butter is mixed together and allowed to be its sweet, buttery sweetness?
I mean, if you're in a pinch and need a candy fix, melt down some butter and mix some sugar into it. I promise you'll like it...
October 28th, 2022 at 11:19 AM ^
That reminds me of hot buttered O’s. Melt butter, mix in sugar, and add Cheerios. Delicious.
October 28th, 2022 at 12:08 PM ^
Agree. Candy corn is more mediocre than bad.
Circus peanuts OTOH...

As a kid, I hated the houses (and there were several) that gave out Better Made potato chips. As a kid, I did not care for plain potato chips at all, and they took up a ton of bag space. I mean, there's only so much room in a queen-sized pillow case, and a bag of chips displaces ~10 candy bars -- it's no contest!
October 28th, 2022 at 11:03 AM ^
My dad would buy a bag of Paramount chips, open them up, and sit them on top of the fridge for a few days. He then ate every single chip in that bag thinking it was the greatest thing since sliced bread.
WTF, dad???
October 28th, 2022 at 11:08 AM ^
Did your dad grow up in the Depression or had parents who did? 'Cause that sounds a lot like my dad, and he freely admitted a lot of the weird shit he ate and said he liked came from his parents who scrounged during the Depression for anything edible.
October 28th, 2022 at 12:30 PM ^
Dad was produced in 1932 (or thereabouts), but I never saw my grandparents eat anything like that. Not even close!
October 28th, 2022 at 10:42 AM ^
Buttered popcorn flavored Jelly Bellys.
I know that's hardly a typical Halloween candy, but we're talking about eclectic tastes so I wanted to throw that out there.

Methinks Harbaugh was channeling Bill Murray just a little...

Left and right Twix laugh as they blitz and collapse the pocket, sacking your other candies in a devastating heap, golf carted out of the pillowcase.

Chewy SweetTarts and Sour Patch Kids for the win!!

Sour Patch is disgusting. Candy is not sour!

Anyone that likes candy corn probably ate glue as a child.

Surprised Kirk Ferentz didn't say his favorite was a 3 Musketeer. Probably the most blah and boring candy bar out there and figured it would be right up his alley
October 28th, 2022 at 11:09 AM ^
Plain Hershey's Chocolate bar. Was good enough for the Doughboys in WW1, good enough for Iowa football.
October 28th, 2022 at 12:14 PM ^
Mousse and nougat? Too complex for ol' Kirk.
He probably prefers plain marshmallows.
October 28th, 2022 at 4:16 PM ^
Sugar cubes and cacao pods, eaten together like trail mix.

Anyone say Dots? They are the last candy standing in my son's school 'trunk or treat' bag.
***Candy corn is the undisputed #1.***
Also, coconut shreds, or whatever they are, should never make their way inside anything candy related.
October 28th, 2022 at 11:10 AM ^
I eat Dots will an unnatural passion. Love those things on movie nights (alternate between Dots, SnoCaps, and popcorn)
October 28th, 2022 at 12:00 PM ^
Agree with Fleck. Bit-O-Honey, yuck. Those stayed at the bottom of the pillowcase until I finally threw them out.

I don't really give a shit about candy or chocolate—I still have a bag of uneaten Nestle Crunches on my desk that are from 2021 Halloween.
But if I have to eat some:
Favorite #1: Payday (regular, not coated in chocolate)
Favorite #2: Baby Ruth
Favorite #3: Skor
