What would you like to see Alex write about?

Submitted by Alex.Drain on February 22nd, 2023 at 1:07 PM

With basketball and hockey seasons entering the stretch run and spring sports just getting started + football spring practice just getting underway, I wanted to check in with the community and see what people would like to see me cover. Are there any pieces you wish to read about? Any topics that you would like me to try and cover that I haven't so far? Any ideas at all, feel free to send them my way in the comments:

At one point you mentioned you'd do a deep-dive into Michigan's NIL apparatus and compare it to the (known) parts of other schools' ones.  I'd be interested to see what is out there and put some facts behind a lot of speculation.

A geopolitical review of how we got to the delicate situation teetering on war between China and Taiwan and the impact of the Ukrainian war on said fragility and future events. All in haiku format.

def love the softball and baseball updates, keep 'em coming.

Wouldn't mind a winter roundup of like wrestling, gymnastics, etc. or even a roundup of all the sports that don't normally get covered.

I've always wanted to see more feature work that we don't get to really see anymore.

What does a typical off-season day look like for a player?

What is the day in the life of a player in season?

I love a round table on what Michigan can do to improve the fan experience. One was done a while back on ways to improve the basketball experience - penalizing no-shows, etc. I would love to see takes on what you, Brian and Seth think should be done to improve the football experience - besides better scheduling, and ungodly TV timeouts.

And lastly a spirited discussion on whether we should play MSU in football and to a lesser degree other sports. I know it is probably a moot point but I would love to get MSU off our schedule as a protected rivalry once UCLA and USC join. We do not need them. They and their hate-filled programs need us.

I know its a little too late now, but in upcoming basketball seasons, I would LOVE to see an Opponent Watch: Basketball Edition. I know its a bit easier to do with football, but Opponent Watch is far and away my favorite content on the blog, and I'd love to see a basketball edition of it.

A "who wins in a fight" series, where one side consists of one or more wolverines and/or Michigan football players. For example: 10^20 wolverines vs the Sun, or one billion Buckeye nuts vs one wolverine.

Bring back the Where to Eat in Ann Arbor feature.

Write a short story where MGoBlog tries to exist in a future after football is outlawed for being too dangerous in a Demolition Man-style dystopia. /s

Rank the men, women, and other-genders attending various Big Ten schools by criteria of your choosing. For example: looks. /s

Perhaps an assessment of how key rivals are adjusting their schemes and personnel to address Michigan’s success. What lessons are they going to be taking away from Illinois and TCU?

In the football vein, I think a Past Seasons In Review series could be really cool. Maybe pick a few years from early in the Harbaugh/Hoke/RR eras and discuss what happened--the expectations, the story lines, the drama. Which players were stars we didn't know we had? Which key plays would have radically changed the season? How did the events of that year shift the program trajectory?
