Women's Soccer Draws WVU (ex), Opens 2016-17
That's right, folks, our long national nightmare is over, and for the first time in what seems like years, there's a Michigan sports score to report! After letting a 1-0 halftime lead slip away, Palo Alto freshman Katie Foug got ahold of a loose ball inside the six yard box and gave it the little toe-poke it needed to even the score a 2 goals apiece with just 27 seconds to go. WVU reached the Elite 8 last season in the women's soccer tournament, and the game was in Morgantown, so hopefully getting a result in the exhibition there will prove to be a positive sign for the team going forward.
First competitive match of the year will be this Thursday at 1 PM in Ann Arbor. Michigan will face another Elite 8 team from last year in the Virginia Cavaliers.
Could be a rough season for the women unfortunately.
3 best players are out. Yekka training with the Canadian U20s, Timko out with an injury and poor Kelly Sweeney who was a highly rated recruit last year and has yet to play a game due to another season ending injury in preseason.

Are Yekka and Timko due back mid-season ? Until then, there's an opportunity for someone else to step up.
Timko could return the latter half of the season if she's cleared by the medical staff.
Yekka is taking the entire season off to train with Canada.
The three that are out are all very good but it might be a stretch to call them the three best players. Sweeney has missed her first two years with injury and has never played in a game. Yekka started 12 of 21 games but certainly has a hgih ceiling. The best case can be made for Timko being a top 3 player.
