Will the Big Ten or SEC play more games this year?

With Nick Saban and however many Florida players and coaches infected, the SEC is likely to miss some games in the near term.

Simple question for open discussion, does the big ten or the sec get more games in?

I think this is right but I also think teams won’t play while actively spreading the virus, so it’s not as cut and dry as it seems.

Wisconsin may just spread it to the entire big ten and we could be in the same boat, but I think the plan the big ten made will limit cases.

Have you seen the COVID numbers for Big Ten states lately? Wisconsin is ON FIRE, Minnesota, Iowa and Nebraska are all among the worst in the country (Illinois as well) and Indiana is not far behind. The fact that the SEC has gotten so many games in already helps them here and they have a little wiggle room in terms of bye weeks, etc. The Big Ten, especially the Big Ten West, is looking like they'll be lucky to get in 6 games.

Doesn’t the SEC have a 10 game schedule while the Big Ten only has a 9 game schedule?   So the SEC can have 6 more cancellations than the Big Ten and still have more games.   Also the Big Ten is playing deeper into December when Covid will likely be worse than today. Finally by most metrics the worst big ten states for covid right now are in worse shape than the worst states in the SEC for covid.    These points all argue for the big ten getting in less games.

What do you base your assertion on?   Here are a few of the things I base mine on.

14 day trend in US cases is up 21%.  Four of the last 6 days have seen more new cases since any day in September.    Nationwide test positivity rate is increasing.   There are only 9 states where the number of cases has stayed flat or decreased over the last 14 days.   In 33 states, test positivity is increasing.   More than half the states are reporting increases in Covid hospitalizations.

The SEC also built in 2 byes for postponements, the Big Ten did no such thing. The Big Ten is only playing because the massive pressure of all their other stakeholders demanded they do so, not because the leadership believes they should.

The SEC believes they should play, from the top leadership to the players to the fans. Amazing how much a difference that leadership makes. They may only play 9 games each, or if it gets bad 8, but that'll be a lot more than the Big 10 teams each play if it gets bad.

No prediction from me, but I'd love to see the B1G eventually get more games in than the SEC.

Let's all do our part by social distancing, wearing masks, washing hands and anything else we can do to lessen the spread of Covid19.  And please also get your flu shots to help keep from overburdening our health care system.

do you want the mathematical answer? Because if you give me straight, absolute bet I will eat your lunch and take SEC. Where do you want to meet December 15th to collect and pay?

Very true, but If I had to pick one I’ll take their offense going down.

There have been plays to be made against OSU’s defense the last few years. Michigan has just been completely unable to capitalize on those opportunities. On the flip side, I don’t see Michigan’s defense being able to put up much of a fight against Justin Fields and his merry band of five star receivers. Especially not with how our secondary is looking. Unless we find a way to clone Daxton Hill three times in the next two months.
