USA-Canada Olympic Men’s Hockey 11:10 pm Tonight
Big game tonight between the men’s Olympic ice hockey teams representing the USA-Canada featuring six current or former Wolverines. It’ll be a late one, with puck drop at 11:10pm and televised on USA Network.
On Team USA we have current UM forwards Matty Beniers and Brendan Brisson, alongside former players Steven Kampfer and Strauss Mann (who is reportedly starting between the pipes tonight). They’ll be going up against current UM forward Kent Johnson and defenseman Owen Power for Team Canada.

USA, USA, USA!! Excited for Mann getting the start.

I’m just glad this game is on a Friday night with how late it’s going to be played. Can watch Michigan-MSU hockey and follow it up with watching this game.
February 11th, 2022 at 4:07 PM ^

February 11th, 2022 at 6:00 PM ^
Hey, this isn't soccer.
Too soon.

If Strauss Mann starts for Team USA, we won't get to see the goalie matchup that might’ve been for a third team this season.
Team USA’s goalie Drew Commesso who played well against China in the opening game has faced Team Canada’s goalie Devon Levi twice this season in games in which Levi’s Northeastern University beat Commesso’s Boston University both nights. Each of those games in November went to overtime with the second one ending in an eight-round shootout. Levi did not play in Canada's opening game win over Germany,
Since those games, BU (currently 16th in the PWR rankings) has gone 12-2-1, Northeastern (currently 15th in the PWR rankings) has gone 9-4. On Monday night in Boston, defending champion Northeastern plays BU in the Beanpot championship game and with Commesso and Levi in Beijing, both teams have to rely on their backup goalies.

Will be tough. I hear Team Canada is just going to park a bunch of trucks in front of the goal.
February 11th, 2022 at 6:03 PM ^
Effective strategy. Honk honk
February 11th, 2022 at 6:16 PM ^
Perfect timing. I will be home from FYS by then. Need to beat FYS to avenge one for the WBB team.
February 11th, 2022 at 8:41 PM ^
Hell yes let's get to work! Very excited for this one, especially since we didn't get to see the matchup at the short lived World Juniors this year. At least USA is still reigning champs there.
February 11th, 2022 at 10:35 PM ^
While we're still some 35 minutes away from USA vs Canada hockey, I hope many of you were watching just minutes ago as USA won Gold in the Mixed Snowboard Cross as Nick Baumgartner (NTNB) of Iron River MI teamed up with Lindsay Jacobellis to win it all.
In doing so, Baumgartner took over for Jacobellis as the oldest Winter USA Gold Medalist ever, a record she had set earlier this week.
I was more excited at the finish than I've been about any Olympic event in a long time.

Made it back from the FYS game but there's no way I will stay awake for this.
February 11th, 2022 at 11:14 PM ^
I have to work tomorrow so heading to bed early won’t bother me at all
February 11th, 2022 at 11:15 PM ^
GOAL!!! Good guys tie it up
February 11th, 2022 at 11:16 PM ^
These uniforms suck. It is next to impossible to see the numbers while they are skating. White numbers on white sweaters - they must have hired Dave Brandon as a consultant.
February 11th, 2022 at 11:19 PM ^
Agreed, Canada's are even worse. A black maple leaf?
February 11th, 2022 at 11:28 PM ^
Yep, hard to pick up uniform #s during action, although I can somewhat see the USA sleeve numbers.
But oh Canada, what were you thinking by putting black numbers and a black maple leaf on dark red uniforms? Uggggh-lyyyyy!
February 11th, 2022 at 11:17 PM ^
What an answer after that soft goal given up by Mann
February 11th, 2022 at 11:21 PM ^
I’m not sure if Canada is suppose to be this much better than team USA but so far Canada is dominating this game
February 11th, 2022 at 11:22 PM ^
Michigan getting massive credit right now on the broadcast - and well-deserved. Our roster is historically elite with talent. Let’s hope we win some hardware (B1G, frozen four appearance, national championship?)
February 11th, 2022 at 11:25 PM ^
I believe the National championship is at TD garden in Boston. We get there and I’ll make the drive
February 11th, 2022 at 11:32 PM ^
The number 1,2, and 5 2021 draft picks!
February 11th, 2022 at 11:41 PM ^
GOOOAALLLLLL U S A !!!
Minnesota Gopher Ben Meyers gives us a 2-1 lead!
February 11th, 2022 at 11:42 PM ^
Goal! 2-1. USA playing looking much better
February 12th, 2022 at 12:01 AM ^
Oooh, what a lucky Mann he was...
( on that 2-on-1 break/shot by McTavich)
February 12th, 2022 at 12:03 AM ^
Goal BRISSON!!!!
Brendan gives USA a 3-1 lead early in the 2nd!
February 12th, 2022 at 12:04 AM ^
Brisson!
February 12th, 2022 at 12:05 AM ^
Brisson!! ??
February 12th, 2022 at 12:05 AM ^
Hell yeah. Their goalie is shaky, time to bury them.
February 12th, 2022 at 12:05 AM ^
3-1. Best outcome is advancing to the quarterfinal and Canada not advancing.
February 12th, 2022 at 12:14 AM ^
Agreed, though I would love to see USA gold Canada silver to have 6 UM medalists
February 12th, 2022 at 12:07 AM ^
This game has been a great advertisement for Michigan hockey.
February 12th, 2022 at 12:12 AM ^
4 minutes after your post - an all Michigan top scorer graphic comes on!
February 12th, 2022 at 12:14 AM ^
I took a picture of it and sent it to people. No replies. Maybe they are sleeping but worth it. Go red, white, and BLUE!
February 12th, 2022 at 12:16 AM ^
Great emphasis on the BLUE!
February 12th, 2022 at 12:15 AM ^
Still 3-1 USA at the midway point of the game...
February 12th, 2022 at 12:21 AM ^
Power play time USA, interference.
February 12th, 2022 at 12:23 AM ^
Damn Canada gets a shorty
February 12th, 2022 at 12:24 AM ^
Damnit, shorty for Canada.
Now 3-2
February 12th, 2022 at 12:29 AM ^
Other than the first 7 or 8 minutes of the 2nd period, Canada has dominated the action on the ice this period.
February 12th, 2022 at 12:30 AM ^
Canada goes to the power play, let’s kill this
February 12th, 2022 at 12:30 AM ^
And now a charging penalty on USA. PP for Canada the last 1:43 of the period
February 12th, 2022 at 12:31 AM ^
Two goal lead going into the third would feel good. Giving up a power play goal is a bit demoralizing but we kill this and get to intermission we can put it behind us and finish this game strong. What a miss and kill
February 12th, 2022 at 12:32 AM ^
The last five minutes of the second period was an onslaught from Canada. Feeling quite fortunate to have a 3-2 lead heading into the third…
February 12th, 2022 at 12:33 AM ^
Wow! A lucky bounce and a big whiff by Canada, USA will be short for 18 seconds to start the 3rd
February 12th, 2022 at 12:34 AM ^
Wow, survived that attack, one off the crossbar and when a whiff on an open net. Whew!!
February 12th, 2022 at 12:49 AM ^
Michigan, Michigan, Michigan. It’s nice to hear the announcers be kind to Michigan after hearing the espn guys cry and trash the Michigan basketball team all game. PP.
