TomVH: DE Ifeadi Odenigbo Update
Ohio DE Ifeadi Odenigbo has become a coveted prospect now with over 11 offers from programs across the country, and he says he's ready to start making some moves.
I'm going to start taking my visits in June; I'll visit a whole bunch of them. Michigan, Michigan State will be in there, I'm not exactly sure all of them I need to talk to my parents.
Once the visits are over with they will give Ifeadi a clearer picture of who is on top for him, and he should have a top list narrowed down.
I should have a top 5 or top 3 after that. Right now I'm leaning towards Stanford, Ohio State, Northwestern, and Notre Dame but that could change with these visits. Any school has a chance.
So Michigan is out of the top group for the moment, which could end up not meaning a whole lot come late June. They'll get their shot to make their way into his final list and he says they have a good chance to do that.
Ohio is absolutely stacked at DE for 2012. How many spots should we reserve for DEs?
Out of all the DE's I've watched highlights of in these updates, I have been most impressed with Ifeadi. His athleticism obviously comes stands out & it's a bonus he is very intelligent kid...I think the sky is the limit with this guy.
I'm sure our facilities, tradition, proximity to home and academics will make a mark.
GO BLUE Ifeadi!!
Which of these things is not like the others?
Well, each of those football teams have had successful seasons from 2008-2010, for the most part. In truth, the worst team of those four, over that period, has been Notre Dame.
If you're talking academics, then Ohio State is the odd school out.
If you're talking "hasn't been to a Rose Bowl within the past 15 years,' again, Notre Dame.
If you're talking long-term, then maybe you get to Northwestern, but then you'd probably have to lump Stanford in there too.
I think he's talking about Ohio State. It's the only one that starts with a vowel.
Pryor wrote a research paper on that topic and seems to agree with your findings.
Incorrect!
As everyone knows, its really THE Ohio State University, so it also starts with a consonant.
It's The University of Ohio State. Pryor said so.
*they're the only ones who THINK their school starts with a vowel.
actually it does start with a consonant but it is F as in FOSU
Yeah, Ohio State has a football program!
/BOOM, HOMER'D!
Or we don't read good. But I'm sticking with the former.
ohio state is the only public school? stanford is the only non-midwestern school? notre dame is the only catholic school? notre dame is also the only independent? ohio state university is the only one with fewer than 2 n's?
Its unlikely ND will have many DE spots in this class, and I don't believe he is really high on the board. I don't think he will have a spot to commit to at ND for a good while, if he even does. He will be a fun one to follow this cycle
I don't think Notre Dame is "that" high on his list either, even though they're in this early top group. I think Stanford and Ohio State are probably the two most solid of this list. He's being honest when he says these visits will help shape the top group.
It wouldn't surprise me, unlikely he would have been offered if he didn't come to junior day and there could be a lot of after glow from his recent visit in that list. If he keeps visiting there might be something to it but until then I am not overly excited or worried about him.
Kid is a top student. Hope Hoke brings in those flashy school rankings and shows Ifeadi what's up.
6 of them are DEs. Wormley is on that list, but Odenigbo is not. OSU is going to have to pick 2 at most (they took 3 last year), and we have to be sure we're there to get the next best non-Wormley guy (assuming Chris comes to M notajinx). Do we need 2 DEs max, and 2 DTs? There are no MI DEs in the R250
Ohio is absolutely loaded at that position. I hope Ifeadi makes his way to AA, but there are a lot of options at DE this year.
R250 OH DEs:
Christopher Wormley | 6'4" | 255 |
Greg McMullen | 6'5" | 255 |
Tom Strobel | 6'6" | 240 |
LaTroy Lewis | 6'4" | 230 |
Adolphus Washington | 6'4" | 230 |
Se'von Pittman | 6'4" | 225 |

It will be interesting to see how it plays out. Outside of Wormley each move could have a different domino effect for these guys.
Tom Strobel from that list is a good option right now, depending on where some of the other guys go. It's just going to have to play itself out.
I saw this quote on WWL via Sam Webb, and it might actually provide a useful insight:
"I didn't know (Michigan) was such a high academic school. Originally, I thought they were just like the other version of Ohio State. I had no idea that their academics were that high and that really made me look higher upon them."
I cannot remember if Tom ever mentioned that academics are one of the things Strobel is looking for, but if so that gives us quite a nice boost up.
Wormley + Strobel = a happy me
don't leave town until we hear
I get negative recruiting, but, "I thought they were just like the other version of Ohio State" (in regards to academics), now that's just DIRTY!
with Michigan State.
Tom,
This seems to be a stacked class in the midwest, in particular at DE. But lost in the shuffle seems to be Wormely, are we still in good standing with him?
I like Brown's film a lot as well. He's a bit thin but would be enough depth for an easy year of redshirt mass protien intake.
I heard that he goes to a school with a coach who might be more pro-Osu than Ginn Sr.
Here's everyone I have coming from Centerville since '02:
Po. | Name | Scout | Rivals | College | Year |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
DE | Kyle Rose | 3 stars | 5.5 | West Virginia | 2011 |
LB | Mike Replogle | 2 stars | 5.4 | Indiana | 2011 |
DT | Michael Bennett | 4 stars | 6.0 | Ohio State | 2011 |
RB | Tristin Boykin | 2 stars | 5.3 | Kent State | 2011 |
OL | Jake Feldmeyer | 2 stars | 5.4 | Illinois | 2009 |
DT | Adam Replogle | 3 stars | 5.6 | Indiana | 2009 |
QB | David Fleming | NR | 4.9 | Youngstown State | 2008 |
RB | James Cravens | 2 stars | 5.0 | Ball State | 2008 |
DE | Drew Serruto | 2 stars | 5.1 | Eastern Michigan | 2008 |
LB | Will Johnson | 3 stars | 5.1 | West Virginia | 2007 |
LB | Tyler Replogle | 3 stars | 5.2 | Indiana | 2007 |
DE | Jameson Hartke | 2 stars | 5.3 | Ohio | 2005 |
OL | Greg Brown | 2 stars | 5.2 | Indiana | 2004 |
OL | Eric Larrimer | 2 stars | 5.2 | Ball State | 2004 |
LB | A.J. Hawk | 4 stars | 5.6 | Ohio State | 2002 |
I guess this doesn't tell us anything really. He sent Hawk and Bennett to the Buckeyes and those were probably his best two prospects.
two prosepects to Ball St. while Hoke was a coach there. That definately is good, means the coach is familiar with Hoke and must have some prior relations with Hoke.
OSU go the two prospects they wanted. I'm guessing they probably didn't offer the other players. I'd be stunned if one of those schools beat OSU for a player OSU really wanted.
I have been reading lots of Duane Long's Blog since we are recruiting Ohio really hard because this class is really deep.
This is what Duane Long said and it goes with what funkywolve is saying:
"I will believe a Centerville kid with a Buckeye offer chooses to go elsewhere when I see it."
I hear they've got great optional lecture hall events.
Ohio State
I hear they've got a great cafeteria.......That you can drive to in YOUR NEW CAR!!!(queue Price is Right music)
I'd love to have Odenigbo in this class, but I've already pretty much written him off. I don't see him going anywhere but Stanford or OSU.
OSU lock.
Thanks for adding so much to the discussion.
You've got to be freaking kidding me. Has he been kept in a closet?
I'm pretty sure that academics aren't all that critical to him; if they were, he'd already know about the "high standing" of the University of Michigan.
In his defense, I'm sure a lot of people down there are not going to be clammoring to praise UM, even if it is academically, to a good prospect.
I just googld "top academic colleges and the first thing that came up was US News and World Report--a list of the "Top 400 Colleges in the WORLD"--and UM is listed 15th.
I'm not big on all this kind of stuff--I figure a guy can get a good college education anywhere and any B10 school or major state university is pretty solid.
But when you tout academics as one of your baileywicks, yet say you didn't know UM was one of the best places for it--well, perhaps you really just mean you want the best place to advance your NFL career? Strange.
Two things I don't get and don't put any stock in:
#1: "I love me some academicals!"
#2: "I've been a Michigan fan all my life!"
I'm unfortunately stuck in northwest Ohio and it is amazing what people from Ohio believe. In a matter of years Ohio State has apparently gone from requiring a pulse to gain admittance to being one of the most well respected institutions of higher learning in the universe. This is the kind of garbage that OSU fans teach their kids down here. Even worse, the kids believe it blindly without checking for themselves.
like Pharoah Brown a lot too. Either of those two and Wormley would be cool with me.
buh-leted.
I wonder if OSU will recruit Odenigbo as a linebacker? He projects to both. You'd expect them to go hard after McMullen and Washington. It'll be interesting to see who else they really pursue.
notre dame seems to be back in the elite, everyones list seems to be ohio state and notre dame thats in the midwest. they really seem to have gotten back into the mix fast as far as being a top recruits favorites. still burns me when guys like ross say how much he loves ohio state. also when is mich junior day?
If I was a 2011 DE prospect, ND might be last on my list. They brought in some stellar DEs last year, and not all of them will go pro early. In fact, a couple will probably redshirt.
lynch and tuitt are the only ones set for DE this year, there is at least one more between Carrico, Springman, hounshel and Niklas. 2 of them will likely move to Oline, and many expect tuitt to move inside if his body continues to fill out. Both Lynch and tuitt will see the field this year, unless they're injured during the spring.
Its not that bad of a situation for a DE when they want 5-6 of them ready to play every game.
From Bucknuts:
Odenigbo said he does not have a clear favorite. However, when asked to name some schools he is definitely interested in, Odenigbo said, “Ohio State, Notre Dame, Northwestern, Stanford and probably Penn State. But Penn State hasn’t offered yet.”
It was also said that he visisted ND and OSU on their junior day. He and his parents met with Tressel for around 20 minutes and they (his parents) were "really impressed" with the coach.
Ifeadi has only played football for two years so there's immense upside for this recruit.
If we get Wormley and another DE, we're in good shape. I still think Brennan Beyer can be a good weakside end, and he'll probably redshirt this fall anyway. We should be good at DE for a little while.
Were there people saying Beyer wouldn't be good? All of the scouting reports I read just said he needed to bulk up. He's built like Craig Roh was (and Ryan Kerrigan was, if you wanna get greedy). He seems like he could end up comparable to Roh if he's coached up right.
kids because he grew up in the town next door (Kettering) that is Centerville's major rival. Perhaps that explains the Ball St. recruits from Centerville.
Go Elks!
