Tim Hardaway Jr. could get $20 Million a year contract!

"He's one of the best pure scorers in the league," said the personnel evaluator. "He can just move the scoreboard when he gets into the game. I think Dallas is using him in the role that most high-level teams would want to use him, the way that Utah's weaponized Clarkson off the bench. He could start for a lot of teams, but because he's a high-usage guy, he's better off the bench."

Each front office seems to value bench scoring a bit differently. As Hardaway approaches his 30th birthday, he should have an opportunity to sign another lucrative contract fresh off his current four-year, $71 millon deal.

"I like him for what he is," said the cap expert. "It wouldn't shock me if he got up to 20."

After thriving alongside Luka Doncic, Hardaway might score that payday from the Mavericks. But if he does test the open market, keep an eye on the Heat, who have struggled to replace what Jae Crowder brought during their run to the 2020 NBA Finals. Victor Oladipo is no longer a candidate to land such a deal in the wake of his latest injury.

That’s money even Juwan could be proud of!

I think that's mischaracterizing the differences between Hardaway and Poole.  Poole was coming off a year where his performance was decidedly up-and-down, especially against upper-lever competition, and in particular his shooting had taken a significant drop after being scorching hot to start the year.  Plus, he was relatively young and you could see where a year more of seasoning and shoring up some of his deficiencies would help.  Hardaway was turning 21 and had been in college for 3 years and had steadily improved to being the clear #2 on a finalist team featuring the NPOY.  He was as ready for the pros as he was going to be from college, and even then he bounced around a bit before finally re-settling with the Knicks and then Dallas.

Poole lucked out that he wound up going to the Warriors, where he wasn't expected to contribute early on and could learn from a great shooter in Curry.  The jury is still out if he'll be anything more than a gunner at this point, but he's at least looking more like a guy who'll get a second contract in the NBA.  But people who were mad at Hardaway were mostly just mad because that team had gotten so close to a title and wanted to bring it back; it wasn't likely that Hardaway was going to play himself into a lottery pick at 21 with a 4th year.

As well, I'm pretty sure that his current $71M contract was once viewed as overpayment. Look, here's ... Bleacher Report!

Search on "Hardaway" and "worst contracts" and you'll all kinds of articles. In context (2017 / 2018 / 2019) they're not wholly unreasonable. Anyway, good for Tim.

Awesome. Get paid Tim. Not sure coming out of high school anyone thought THJ was an NBA player but man he developed here and it's great to see him have a really long NBA career

There's been some buzz about THJ to the Heat which would be a great fit for him. Not sure what that would mean for Duncan since he's gonna get a fat contract too
