Read the Mitch Album crap article today (yea I know), and it quoted Sister Jean as saying: "Did you give up anything for Lent", she replied "Yes, Losing".  Well, Lent ends on Thursday, and we play Saturday.

Go Blue - me and the fam will be in section 313!!!!

Mitch Albom just comes across as one of those guys who desperately wanted to be good at sports in high school, couldn't make any teams, so signed up for the sports section of the school newspaper instead and then gained a hugely false sense of importance because he got a field pass to football games.

my entire childhood I was told Lent ends at 12 AM Easter Sunday.  And the math of "40 days" makes sense if Lent ends on Easter Sunday.

But if Lent does end on Thursday (and that's what Wikipedia says, and we know that is never wrong!), I now feel that God "owes" me for all those Fridays and Saturdays of my youth where I was still not eating candy or playing video games.

(yes - I would stay up until 12:01 AM on Easter Sunday morning and then go on a candy/video game binge)

then it will be 12:01 AM local time and it will unquestionably be Easter Sunday and "not Lent."  Michigan wins!

Also after 30 overtimes --- Kansas and Villanova will have completely given up on playing their own game, and will have left back for home.

So Michigan wins the title game too by forfeit.  :-)

Eastern Orthodox has Lent end on Thursday (sort of). It’s complicated since it starts on a different day and other factors are involved. But, “the liturgical calendar” is a strange citation. The Western Liturgical Calendar (by that I mean all of Christendom all over the world except Orthodoxy) considers Maundy Thursday and Good Friday as part of Lent, Sunday’s are not technically part of the season of mourning/repentance since the resurrection celebration still occurs on Sunday even if encouraged to be a bit more solemn. I think we just need to show Sister Jean that Lenten fasting is a tradition for man, not a command from God by helping her fail her fast and still know God loves her even though her team lost in Lent. I am still amazed that Mitch writes a book about the Fab Five (which I found quite readable) but makes no mention of anything unseemly or close to a rules violation.  He then turns around a few years later and expresses disbelief that the coaching staff didn't know about Mr. Martin and the money.  So much for being anything close to an investigative reporter.
