Semi-OT: Devin Gardner and Young Go Getters

Disappointing and frustrating day on the gridiron. However, while watching the MHSAA D3 finals, saw something really awesome during halftime about our own Devin Gardner. Maybe others were aware, but Devin is back in Detroit and running Young Go Getters, the company he founded to train and develop QBs. Devin seems very focused on giving back to Detroit and teaching young men through football. As a coach myself, I was really impressed with the way he interacted with the kids and how he was teaching lessons about toughness and life through his drills. I have always heard great things about Devin, and it was awesome to see that reinforced. Great job Devin and forever Go Blue!

It’s easy to lead when all you do is win and everything goes your way. You learn a lot about what kind of man and leader you are when you lose. Moreso than when you win. Gardner got more than his fair share of that.

That being said, he is a true leader on and off the field. He got a bad rap here and we definitely wanted more for him, but he handled all of that transition, all of the flak from the fans, all of the beatings he took week in and week out, and he never once complained. He forged on and did what he could to help the team win.

Proud to have him represent this university.

oldest daughter asked him to prom a few years back.  said he'd go, but he was in japan at the time.  i bet he'd make an excellent son in law....

There was a large pic of him in the WSJ today demonstrating headgear for use in non-tackle versions of football. It was developed by Xenith LLC, a start-up in Detroit that has spent millions and several years in its development.
