R/place is back!
In an attempt to distract the reddit community from the API disaster, reddit has kicked off r/place again. The Michigan community has plans for a Michigan spot on the map highlighting one of our accomplishments from last year in football.
We won't be able to make this happen without more support, things are starting slower than last year. It's very easy to play, just login to reddit and to to r/place from the app or desktop browser. Select the pixel you want to place and the color and place it there. You can do it every 5 minutes.
The most important thing is to establish our area early, it's far easier to maintain our spot than it is to build it from scratch, so we need a lot of involvement from the get go.
I've included the current plan below, but this can and will change as it gets established. The best thing to do is join the Michigan sports discord at:
In addition to r/place, this discord has great discussion of Michigan sports throughout the year.
Good luck with r/place and as always fuck Ohio.
Why is this something I want to give time and effort to?
Because you are bored and want to increase Michigan's brand? Or because you want to remind OSU of last year's pasting?
Thank you for explaining.
I suppose a nihilist's strategy would be to color every pixel on the grid black.
That's the voids goal. They just roam around making everything black.
LOL ... such a group actually exists!
(I shouldn't be surprised, it's Reddit ..........)
say what you want about the tenets of national socialism, dude, but at least it's nonmonochromatic
I'll file this under things I don't understand. *waves cane*
Hey, at least this only lasts a few days unlike cfbrisk!
I was thinking the same thing. I consider myself moderately savvy (see inserted gif below as proof), but this I don't get.
Someone created a helpful website that will be kept up to date with the latest plans and information:
I have no idea what this means, but it sounds like it involves spiting Ohio so I'm in.
You place a pixel on a digital 2D surface - each pixel remains the color a user has assigned to it for a set period of time - after which, it becomes "open" again on a first come first serve basis, so any reddit user can place a new color there.
This means some really amazing pixel designs can be created with a large and coordinated group. It also means other users can, willingly or unwillingly, sabotage your design.
Often, opposing groups in real life end up beefing over pixels on the board in an effort to establish and sustain dominance over the 2D surface. It's literally a digital turf war.
It was fun when I did it the first time but the thrill is gone, tbh.
r/place is a cool concept in theory but the griefing really ruins the entire thing for me.
It's a place that's ripe for trolls and I'm too old to be in places infested with trolls.
Good luck with the Block M, I hope y'all can avoid the stupid chaos.
I think this year, r/place is basically going to be a canvas for protesting reddit management, which I think is a pretty good use of it.
It's just another distraction.
As was Reddit "phasing out coins", which lead to awards being awarded at unprecedented levels.
So did we lose our place? I think I've lost interest.
This seems like a big waste of time - like the internet
And yet here we are.
/r/place is a desperate attempt for Reddit to look like the engagement is higher than it actually is and that it's still a happy dappy fun friendly location.
**FUCK** /r/place, fuck Spez, fuck the entire Reddit administration, and fuck the IPO.
Don't take the distraction bait.
I did this last time but I think I'll pass on it this time. It was exceedingly frustrating and time consuming. This has lost its luster being so close to the last one.
Just checked on r/place and it's all dicks, bronies, flags, and "fuck spez".
