Remembering Dean Cook article

Submitted by PeteM on

I came across this article about Dean Cook -- a Michigan events staffmember who died recently at 58 years old.  I never spoke with him, but I saw him at basketball games over the years.  This was a nice tribute, with shout outs from Caris LeVert, Beilein, Tom Wywrot, Matt Shepard, the Mlive & Daily guys among others.   He sounds like he was a great, behind-the-scenes part of the Michigan family.

Awesome guy. I first got to know him covering basketball for mgoblog, and even after I moved out of town and hadn't been to a home game in years (while still working for the Wolverine), he recognized me walking down the street on my way to a game as a fan this Fall.

Really sad he's gone.

I never knew his name and we never spoke, but seeing his picture when Ace posted about this on Twitter, he was instantly recognizable, particularly if you were a regular at Crisler. One of those rare Athletics event employees who seemed to really love their job, always with a smile on his face and an undeniable love for Michigan. Huge loss for the Michigan Athletics community.

Thanks for passing this along, RIP Dean. I actually saw his picture in the obituary sidebar on AnnArbor.com this morning, and thought, hm why does this guy look/sound familiar.
