Questions about safety recruits

Submitted by Fat Mike on
okay tony jefferson is here. hope things go well. in case he doesnt come, what are we looking at as safeties? are we still in on the dematha guys lo waters and michael coley? i know we just offered Ray Vinopal and from looking at his video he seems to play smart heads up football but highlight videos make everyone look like a 5 star. also a few wr recruits could switch as well like jerald robinson and d.j. williamson but what other safeties are we in good contention with? also is rashad knight a corner or a safety? cant sleep because of The Game. thought i would strike up a convo

Well Vinopal is said to be getting a lot of looks from BCS program so his stock seems to be on the rise. I believe Knight is a CB. I've heard people talking about Cullen Christian moving to safety, but obviously we have to get him first. As far as the two WR commits are concerned, they both play DB in college, but Sam Webb said one of them (can't remember which) is the best receiver in class... so me thinks he won't move. Let's not forget that we have Thomas Gordon who is at safety and again, there is talk of Justin Turner moving there as well. FINALLY, there is also a lot to be said about your current safeties being in the system another year and getting that practice time. We've got a lot of good young guys, they just need the time to develop... sadly it appears people don't want to give RR the time to let it happen. Unfortunate.

good to hear taht about vinopal he makes some pretty nice plays in his video. i didnt know that about turner i always thought he was going to be at corner. yes we do have some young talent. im hoping emilien can get healed up and progess next year to play significant time as well as turner mike williams was a four star coming out of high school so hopefully its just youth and inexperience in the scheme and that next he will improve.

The DeMatha guys are long shots, and I don't think we've been recruiting them that hard. Vinopal is a subpar player. In my opinion, if it gets to the point that we need to take a commitment from him, it's a huge sign of desperation. He's the Second Coming...of Jordan Kovacs. Jerald Robinson isn't that great of a player on either side of the ball, as far as I see. I'm not sure why the coaches/recruiting sites are so high on him. However, he COULD move to safety, but it's unlikely. If D.J. Williamson switches to defense, he'll be a corner, not a safety. But in my opinion, Williamson's phone number is the most likely to be "forgotten" by the coaching staff... Rashad Knight is a safety, not a corner. The only other safety you haven't mentioned is Sean Parker.

Magnus, Based on the various recruiting profiles of Vinopal he seems hardly a reach; his numbers, while varied seem to indicate a player held in high regard by some services and less so by others. Hardly the second coming of Jordan Kovacs (who evidently owns the run but lacks the top end to recover on the deep routes). Best wishes.

Without trying to sound like a DBag ... I speak with some guys around the Cardinal Mooney HS program.. Of course the NDame Safety McCarthy was a Mooney grad and was amazing in winning state titles while there and now looking like a NFL player at Dame... recently several coaches are questioning if Vinopal is just as good or maybe better than either of the McCarthy brothers were at this point in HS ... so it is no secret the kid is a well coached and promising player at the safety spot. It would be GREAT to get into the Mooney program ... we had Taylor Hill for like 3 weeks then he bounced out of UM ... Penn State has been the school attempting the pipeline creation most with Beachum and Zordich ... Great coaching and great discipline at Mooney and they are about to win state again
