OT: UW RB practices despite suspension
Apparently Sarkisian thinks he is still at USC. Or he has adopted Dantonio's rules of discipline.
I guess I don't see the problem. LeGarrette Blount was allowed to practice with Oregon's team all year a couple seasons ago, even though he was suspended. It gives kids discipline without the opportunity for glory (if they can't play in the games). He was suspended from the team, not dismissed.
I don't see the point of suspending kids from practice. Either kick him out of school for good or kick his ass. What does that say for the rest of the kids on the team if the kid is good?
"Listen here if you screw up I'm going to give you a week off practice and beating your head in and then you can come back and steal the job away from the kid that kept quiet practicing and staying clean each day , because you know my ass is on the line for wins."
Extra work, carry pads, no steak at training table, whatever, but giving knuckleheads more free time is not the answer.
Wisdom has just be dropped upon us.
Thank you
Dantonio'ing a player
Perhaps he's practicing because a D-1 RB should be able to outrun the police. Coach Sarkisian has determined he's not yet elusive enough, nor does he have enough top-end speed, to be sitting out spring drills.
I don't think pot or a first DUI warrants suspension. I wonder how many of Bo's players got caught with pot in the old days and ended up with an "in-house" resolution? We've seen variations of the quote here often: "college kids smoke pot."
I think Bo's old practice of running violators up and down the steps of the Big House were a lot more effective anyway. I would be willing to bet that a lot of players got "strike one" but not very many made it to "strike two."
I'm so against punishment for simple pot possession that I don't even pick on Sparty players for it.
UW's always been like this. A few years ago they had a backup RB that could only play in home games IIRC because the school president barred him from leaving the state while he was under indictment for a felony.
