OT: UCLA's comeback orchestrated by OC Jedd Fisch
I thought this was a really smart break-down by Ian Boyd of UCLA's comeback and how Jedd Fisch made halftime adjustments to take advantage of Texas A&M:

For sure. But the adjustments are real. There's also this tweet by "Smart Football":
Watched UCLA comeback vs Texas A&M. UCLA killed them with basically 3 pass concepts: Y-stick, F-post (to trips) and TE cross seam from trips
— Chris B. Brown (@smartfootball) September 4, 2017
UCLA adjusted; Texas A&M didn't.
September 5th, 2017 at 7:45 PM ^
A&M never picked up the UCLA TE who was owning them. Play after play he just ran a crossing route and gained 10-15 yards. Then there was that completely missed INT that went for a UCLA TD.
UCLA made adjustments for sure but A&M collapsed more than UCLA won.

I would not be looking at Jed Fisch. I would look at Kevin Sumlin. That is the worst coaching and game managemant I have ever seen. Also mond is another running back and should not have even bothered throwing the ball. Anyways who cares Pep Hamilton> Jed Fisch all day.

Something is strange...my text has now disappeared on a couple of different threads.

also killed A&M. 3 for 17 may be the worst performance I have ever saw. Oops, forgot about Russell Bellomy taking over for Denard at Nebraska.
A&M seemed to play a prevent and once UCLA got rolling it was over. I still don't believe the winning catch was actually a catch. He definitely didn't have control of the ball before his foot went out of bounds.
September 5th, 2017 at 9:46 PM ^
No other reason.
September 5th, 2017 at 10:52 PM ^
The Bellomy reference is pretty accurate.

That fuck up alone should get any coach fired.

different things throughout the game and made proper adjustments at half and was able to counter what A&M brought. Incredible comeback by UCLA.

They ran 60 times for 390 yards. Were 9 for 30 passing for less than 100 yards plus some sacks. They got the lead by running the ball with just a few passes thrown in and were up 38-10 at the half.
Second half they came out with a new offensive gameplan. Extend the game by switching to a passing attack. They went from a 4 to 1 split to 50-50 with most of the runs by the QB. They never went away from it either. You really have to wonder what was going on. Unless he turns things around soon, I can't see how Sumlin lasts to the end of the season.

I mean, they did make adjustments at the half, just all the wrong ones. At the time you want to use clock, they start passing more. They move away from what got them the 28 point lead and the offensive gameplan that UCLA couldn't stop. Makes no sense at all.

but that win should not have happened. An easily missed interception late should have sealed the loss.

I genuinely felt bad for that kid when I saw his anguished reaction after that play. He literally missed grabbing the INT (or at least breaking up the pass) by a hair's length.

18 yard TD pass Rosen threw off his back foot (displayed under section 5 of the article) looks like a prayer that happened to be answered, and is as fortunate a play as you will ever see. Stil, great props to Rosen and UCLA for rallying to score to 5 touchdowns in the 4th quarter to pull it a miraculous comeback.

I thought that was the most absurd/awesome thing ever. Somewhere Michael Irvin and the 1980s Hurricanes were wondering why they never thought of that.

no doubt, jerome and irvin and those dudes did ok but they missed the cane. much better than that stupid trash can thing on tennessee vols sideline (as far as those type ridiculous ideas go)

Sumlin did make some 2nd half adjustments - he tweaked a design for a uniform, he apparently scribbled over every effective play Texas A&M may have had....you know, the important stuff that wins game.

Harbaugh's teams and coaches all do a GREAT job of making adjustments at halftime (except Durkin/OSU). It's night and day compared to the Hoke era of THIS IS MICHIGAN, MANBALL, WE WILL NOT CHANGE FOR ANYONE!!!

The comeback was 80% collapse by A&M, 10% luck, and 10% Rosen.

He seemed to work really well with Coach Harbaugh.
I hope he gets that head coaching job he's aiming for.
Nevertheless, Coach Hamilton seems to be a step up.
September 5th, 2017 at 8:20 PM ^
Orchestrated by Fisch, but composed by Sumlin's idiocy.
I guess at least one of my team's has a competent HC.
September 5th, 2017 at 8:22 PM ^
When I look at the resume's of both Fisch and Pep, I don't see the 'clear, massive upgrade'. Yes, I do think Pep is an upgrade, but I don't think its of the magnitude that many here are saying. Jedd was OC of Jacksonville, and Pep was OC/Assist HC in Cleveland. Two dumpster fires... I think they're both top notch, but believe that Pep better fits the type of passing game Harbaugh wants with so many weapons to play with.
Am I missing something?
September 5th, 2017 at 8:28 PM ^
They both do a good job. Its not like Harbaugh would have fired Jedd to get Pep.
September 5th, 2017 at 8:39 PM ^
Besides the coaching resume comparison Pep actually was a quarterback in college whereas Jedd never played football. Maybe not a big deal but you do hear guys talk about being coached by someone who actually played etc.

how this blog was all over ucla while they were down.
Lot of fair weather folks on this blog.
Great job Jedd

Sumlin abandoned what was working, and the defense completely what the bed on several occasions. Sunday night was a microcosm of Sumlin in his time at A&M. Rushing out to a fast start and then falling apart in the second half.
