OT: Rickie Fowler wins @ The Players

Submitted by Mitchamaniac on
For anyone that was watching knows that was an unbelievable round of golf. Probably the best golf I've ever seen. Fowler, Kisner, Garcia all tied after the 18th hole. The three go into the playoffs to duke it out on holes 16,17,18 again. Garcia gets knocked and Fowler seals the deal in sudden death on hole 17 for the W.

And Lebron hit the game winning buzzer beating 3 over the Bulls 2 days after Rose did the same thing.

Crazy sports day.

Fowler is a great young golfer. Finishing in the top 5 in each major last year really put his name on the map on the professional tour (he was a well-known amateur a few years back). This win today in the "5th major" so it's called, really could help propel him forward to be in the hunt again on Sunday during the next three majors.

bounces his approach shot about two feet from the water but instead of bouncing forward or to the right the ball bounces left on to the green allowing him to get his eagle and really get on a roll; he hits that shot in the water we aren't dicussing how great he is on MGOBLOG.

I wonder how much being tied for first for "most overrated" with Ian Poulter in an anonymous poll of PGA Tour players motivated him this week?  It was great to see him shove it in their faces with a victory in what many feel should be the "fifth major."

He birdied 17 three consecutive times yesterday.  With the "Sunday" pin placement, the odds against being able to get that close three times in a row are huge.  If it was being called "overrated" that put him over the top, I hopethe media keep reminding him in the next three majors.

Wow what an exhilarating golf match. Golf is so exciting, I was out of my seat. It made me feel just like the way I felt when trey Burke hit the shot against Kansas.

Not bad for the guy that was named as "The Most Overrated Golfer on Tour" by an anonymous survey of players earlier in the week.   Thats one way to stick it to the haters.

defiant, didn't you think? Almost arrogant, I wasn't backing him too much but I did remember he was the guy who lost in overtime to Jim Furyck at the Zurich Classic back in April; it must suck to be so close to victory only to not be victorius. The guy definitely has game.

Not sure I agree with you there. He finished in the top 5 of all 4 majors last year, the only other players to do that were Jack and Tiger. Give the kid his due - he's only 26 years old and most golfers don't hit their prime until their mid 30s.

HERE is a good look at what he did last year, impressive to say the least.

And whle I was rooting for Sergio today, good to see Rickie pull one out.

A great golfer and a good kid who finally won a big one. Good for him. I'm a Fowler fan because not only is he a nice guy, he and my older son could be twins, they look so much alike.

Rickie has been my favorite player for about four years. I am so happy he won the unofficial fifth major. He had the best year of his career last season; so many almost wins. Now he finally gets his second win and it is a big one.

#17  six times this week.  His net score on just that hole for the week was -5.  Incredible.  I'm an 8 handicap and I don't think I could even hit the green.
