He may have made some great music but I can never forgive his family for the Red Wedding.

I was at Mon Jin Lau in Troy an hour ago and the last thing I saw before leaving the restaurant was a pic of Frey and the restaurant owner among the celebrity diner photos above the establishment's main entrance. He was a Detroit native, Dondero HS Class of '66. I probably have to fire up his Miami Vice episode now (Smuggler's Blues). RIP

Dondero alum myself. The building is a junior high now and Kimball was turned into Royal Oak High School. Kind of ironic since Dondero was called Royal Oak High School until Kimball was built.

To the middle school dondero became.

...and clasmates with Glen Frey's younger brother Matt. I remember visiting his Royal Oak boyhood home, a modest Cape Cod on Catalpa. Hanging in their parents living room was a framed On The Border gold album. (does this qualify for Cool Story Bro consideration?)

Thanks, it is indeed him. Grew up watching him on Channel 7 as a kid and my brothers thought he was legendary based on the stories heard about him despite them being too young to remember watching him.

My mom was on student council with him. I've never really heard that many stories about it, so maybe his passing should be the impetus for kind of a StoryCorps event.

What the hell is going on?
I'm going to put Chino Moreno in a hyperbaric chamber inside of a bomb shelter.

A lot of people that I listened growing up were in the thirties and forties then. Now I'm in my late thirties and they are in their 50's-70's. We're going to lose a lot of legends in the next ten to twenty years. Not to mention the ones that may leave prematurely.

I was having the same thought when I heard this news, and it reminded me of a tweet that came across my feed earlier today with the ages of various rock icons as they will be (or are, if their birthday has passed already) in 2016. I was actually a bit awestruck by the fact that a lot of artists I grew up listening to (I am nearly 40 myself) are now in their 60s and 70s, some in fact the same age or older than my own parents (74 and 72). Didn't really think about it until I saw that list.
RIP Glenn Frey.

i saw them a few years ago and they were great!!! my sister-in-law was gonna throw her panties on stage until my wife reminded her that she is not a size 2 anymore, like when she saw the eagles in the early eighties.... she refrained .... lol...

... at first I thought this was someone from the Philadelphia Eagles, and I thought, "Hmm... never heard of him.
Then I saw it on a newsfeed, and made the connection to one of my favorite bands growing up. Sucks. RIP.

Rest in peaceful easy feeling.
January 18th, 2016 at 6:15 PM ^
What position did he play?
January 18th, 2016 at 6:29 PM ^
In the words of Lebowski, who fucking hated the Eagles, "Take it Easy, Man."
January 18th, 2016 at 6:41 PM ^
Hell finally froze over. I love Lebowski but he was dead wrong about the Eagles. Wonder how Felder is doing tonight.
Joe Walsh said to be stunned he wasn't the first to go.
January 18th, 2016 at 9:45 PM ^
I imagine Felder is savoring an adult beverage tonight, and smiling a wide smile.

There was some absolutely outstanding rock music produced in the 70's and these folks are getting old. They produced the music of my youth and I still enjoy listening to most of these songs. Unfortunately, this trend is going to continue as these folks continue to get older.

One from Detroit/Royal Oak, the other from east Texas. They met up in LA and became one of the greatest song-writing and vocal harmonizing pairs in music history.

Never understood those who "hate the Eagles". Like, I get if it wouldn't be one's true style or maybe something about them just didn't click. They made some decent music that I find hard to debate and to hate a band like that, I don't get it. Is it more of a "too cool" for them, type outlook?
