Mental illness sucks

Glad he had the courage to call it out for what it is. A leader and best, even if transferred. Helping others remove the stigma and ask for help.

sucks to hear. Hopefully, he'll be able to seek treatment and get better

I’m sure his thoughts would be different had he stayed in Ann Arbor. That bench looks happy as hell.

Douchey comment

No offense, dude, but depression does it’s own thing.
February 25th, 2021 at 9:32 PM ^
I am curious where you inferred a diagnosis of depression from, based on what he said in his released statement. Because that’s not what he said.
February 25th, 2021 at 9:52 PM ^
The mental health community has seen a higher rate of depression in those that have had it. Also an inability to shake the ‘brain fog’ that comes with it and get back to feeling like themselves.
February 25th, 2021 at 9:58 PM ^
Sure, no doubt on both of those, but (1) it’s not what he said and it’s massively unfair to make that presumption, (2) mental health issue does not equal depression, and (3) brain fog certainly doesn’t equal depression.

I thought this was the most interesting thing in the article:
DeJulius is the fifth Cincinnati player to opt out, joining sophomore guard Zach Harvey, freshman guard Gabe Madsen, junior forward Mamoudou Diarra and graduate transfer Rapolas Ivanauskas. Diarra has since opted back in, while Ivanauskas joined BC Rytas, a professional club in Lithuania.

This is the stupid thought in the back of your head where the other 99% of your cognitive reasoning doesnt allow this to be said aloud or typed into a message board...cumong man

I mean, beyond the douchiness of this comment he was second in the AAC in assists and was playing a lot for a Cincy team that was playing well recently. Not every player's decision needs to be viewed through the lens of why he secretly hates/regrets not playing for Michigan.
He had COVID-19; sounds like it really did a number on him. He recognized that he needed mental health assistance and was strong enough to admit it and seek it out. He deserves credit for that, not snarky comments about how he'd feel better if he was on the bench when UM beat Iowa.

Not saying this is the case with him, but sometimes kids with mental health issues are looking for an excuse to seek help. What i mean is that they’ve always felt like they needed professional mental health treatment but because of the stigma they don’t feel like they can ask for it until something gives them an “out”. It sucks people have to have large, public, shitty things happen to them to seek help (in this case having covid). And I hope that whatever the reason, everyone will support DDJ, and anyone else, who has mental health problems. We should all work to reduce the stigma.

There is no place for your backhanded mocking of the young man.

Get better DDJ.

As someone someone who had a close family member have a suicide attempt last month, I am thankful to hear this.
Mental illness is real, nothing to be ashamed of, get help, you are loved, and important.
February 25th, 2021 at 8:12 PM ^
Mental illness is real. It’s not a weakness or being soft.
Hope he gets whatever help he needs. That’s not something to take lightly.

UC is my #2 team. I was very surprised that he didn’t look as well as I expected on the court this year. This obviously explains that. Hope he gets help and gives it 1 more season.

I hadn't realized he had COVID too.
February 25th, 2021 at 9:02 PM ^
Was bizarre he left in the first place.
February 25th, 2021 at 9:06 PM ^
wow, this sucks to hear, but I'm glad he is able to realize he needs to work on himself
February 25th, 2021 at 9:17 PM ^
Glad he realized it, hope he has support in place. Get healthy think straight and return for another day
February 25th, 2021 at 9:18 PM ^
He had COVID earlier in the year and admitted he never felt quite right afterwards. Heard similar aftermath from a couple of people who also recovered from COVID; it absolutely can make you feel a step slow and depressed. Hopefully he gets the help he needs and can come back and play next year.

Health is the most important thing. Get well, David.

Always loved DDJ! Godspeed DDJ

Hope he gets the help he needs. It’s good that he is taking the time to do this; too many don’t.
