OT: Current job of Tony Gibson (long-time RichRod assistant)
Unless you closely follow the career paths of former RichRod assistants, you might not know that Tony Gibson is West Virginia's defensive coordinator.
His time at Michigan (defensive backs) didn't go well, to put it mildly.
Here's a piece from Andy Staples of SI on Tony's recent work:

I still have nightmares of Cullen Christian and Ray Vinopal getting burned left and right in 2010.

Rinse and repeat...
We lived that for a couple long years...

Throwback bonus points for referencing Cullen "Buck" Christian in this thread
He of the never ending commitment ceremony...

Interestingly, their defense is ranked 33rd in S&P+. So are the air raid offenses good or the other defenses in conference really bad?

He must be a pretty decent coach after all. Maybe Rodriguez should have made him DC. It seems logical he could have out-schemed the Gerg.

for me it was the fullback strolling into the end zone as we played a 3-3-5 on the goal line. after a bye.

Mine came after the 2000th conversion given up on 3rd and 30 because the corners would always be in cover 3 and come up on the shorter route, leaving the longer route wide open exactly 31 yards down field.

You have a good memory....and you are exactly correct. This game was the lowest of all lows.

He's done quite well since leaving here.
I'm happy for him.
I still keep in contact with Barwis, who is also doing well.

I really enjoyed watching the short TV show that he had on a few years back.
I am happy to see that his training facilities seem to be doing well. Is he up to anything else?

I think he has around a half-dozen training facilites in Michigan.
That show was a weird thing. It was a hit. It had a lot of viewers then Discovery changed top management and they just dropped it out of nowhere. Super weird.

That defense is playing well. Good for him finding success.

Which is why maybe he's a better schemer than a position coach. Whcih is maybe why he's found his niche. Good for him.

I head some national football podcast the other day where, maybe CF Live or something where the hosts were saying "When you are up against a Tony Gibson Defense, you had better come prepared to bring your best"
Really?

in the Big 12 is not exactly a high bar, but good for Tony Gibson.

the main complaint about Gibson was that he knew very little about defensive back play which is probably a lot less of a factor if you're the DC and have a reasonably competent DB coach doing that for you.
