have a specific tie-in to the Gator too, don't they? Or am I misremembering? Could lead to a UM vs. ND rematch in years where both are average, though I assume the bowl committee would try to avoid that.

I know this was the case years back, but recently the Big Ten hasn't been that much better than the ACC that their #3 against our #5 would be a good game. They still have VT, FSU and Miami. They aren't all that great, but should be decent any given year. Then you have Clemson, UNC who is on an upswing and GT who is solid as well. I like the bottom half of the Big Ten against the bottom half of the ACC, but as far as bowl teams go, they should match it up evenly (i.e. #3 vs. #3) and see how that plays out.

Miami kinda stinks actually. My opinion is GT is the best team in the conference right now, followed closely by VT and then FSU/Clemson/UNC. The ACC basically lines up right now so that none of their teams can match up against any of the best teams in any BCS conference except the Big East, and might have a tough go of it against the MWC. HOWEVA there's six or seven teams that could be third best in any conference, SEC and Big 12 included. If I were a conference matching up against the #3 ACC team right now I'd prefer not to send my #5 team. I'd bet on the ACC in all such cases.

but I like the Commish's idea about keeping the Texas alumni happy as well as maintaining a recruiting foothold in the fertile recruiting grounds of Texas. If nothing else changes, the Texas Bowl would match up the Big 12 #7 versus our #4 or #5; I think it would look pretty good for our Conference, as well as recruiting, it we beat up on some down on it's luck B12 team. Actually, for that very reason, the B12 might want to send a higher tier team to that bowl game. Either way, I think it would turn out well.
