Ohio license plate
And of course I have my Michigan decal on the window, Michigan liscense plate and Michigan shoes in the back showing out. I had three people come up to me, profess their love for M and start chatting football. No matter where you are in the US(or the world), there will be both Michigan grads and fans.
I know a guy who's got his minivan decked out in UM logo's and bumperstickers (he's a UM grad), and another guy who's license plate reads "wol4ine", both go to my church.
Actually now that I think about it, the Wolverine fan's outnumber the Buckeye fan's at my church... which is pretty amazing considering it's in Fairborn Ohio, about an hour from Columbus.
Small MGOBLOG world, I work in Xenia.
I graduated from Xenia Christian, that private school with the nice campus off detroit st. and 68
Man, I have spent a lot of time in Fairborn. I prefer the restaurants in Beavercreek, for the most part, though. However, Giovanni's is great for pizza, and there's something about Foy's greasy spoon goodness that speaks to me.
I think the reason you may see so many UM grads in Fairborn is the presence of WPAFB Area B. That much aerospace research is bound to attract people from the top schools, UM being among the best of the best.
I've never posted before, but this was definitely the impetus I needed to join. I'm proud to say that the owners of said Venza are my parents! We were up in Toledo for some Tony Packo's and a Mudhens game. I woke my dad up to show this to him and he now wants to be referred to as "the bawlsiest man in the world!"
I especially like driving to Columbus in that car. Unfortunately, the one time we decided to leave it behind was the 2002 UM-OSU game. Probably the right choice in hindsight. Win or lose, I don't think you want that license plate near Ohio Stadium.
i was under the impression the Toyota Venza was first produced in 2008. It is a cross over station wagon. not trying to be mean. Anyone know if that is false?
Can be transferred from car to car. By "that car" he presumably means "my parents' car with the Ohio 'UM Fan' plates."
Also, you couldn't take 10 seconds to confirm the Venza was introduced in 2008? Or did you? [If not, lame. If so, poser.]
Yeah, I live in Toledo and it most certainly is not enemy territory. And speaking of Michigan-related Ohio plates, I'm pondering one, but I don't know if "LDRSBST" is understandable enough. I don't really want to get like "I LUV UM". Ideas? Critiques?
The fact that it's not initially understandable is both the upside and the downside of it. If you put a UM license plate cover on it, then I think Michigan fans will identify it right away. Making it a great plate for getting friendly honks and comments. For non-UM fans though, I think you'll get lots of questions, so make sure you're willing to explain (and then put up with their less than excited response). At least this is my experience with my license plate that has a pretty oblique Jimmy Buffett reference.
and saw a Pennsylvania state plate that was a University of Michigan-personalized plate. Didn't know they had those in PA.
Forget all of those things I said about the Keystone State.
...in Virginia as well. Many thanks to the U-M Clubs of Washington, Richmond and Tidewater for spearheading the campaign to make it a reality.
Mine is W1VRNS.
Anybody know about Illinois? Last I heard, Illinois had a law or a policy that limited collegiate plates to Illinois-state schools, and Northwestern.
Then, asomebody (I think it was the inimitable Chicago political fixer, Ed Burke) slipped through a provision in Springfield that allowed for state license plates honoring "private schools from states adjoining Illinois with an enrollment of more than 10,000" or something like that.
It was, of course, the Notre Dame exception. Which pretty much sums it all up for me. So nice that all of the schlebs in Chicago who never attended Notre Dame can still buy the plates.
Perhaps an Alderman in Chicago will name a new subspecies of Asian carp for the University of Michigan.
Yeah, I'm right with you on this one. I grew up in Illinois, live in Chicago now, and went to U of M, and would be on this bandwagon asap. I think we essentially need a politician in Illinois who's an M grad to support it. . . none come to mind off the top of my head, though.
Shit. Maybe I should run for office. I mean, someone's gotta do it, right? This is certainly a worthy platform for my hypothetical candidacy.
i was born and raised in Ohio. all my family OSU fans. i grew up from young age a die-hard Michigan fan. through years of heckling and jokes my skin grew to 4" thick. while working at construction sites I wore my Wolverine Hard-hat helmet. I am proud to say I stayed the course and made it out of Ohio. Go Blue!
I live in Toledo and drive a blue jeep patriot with a block M in the window and a UM license plate holder. My neighbors on either side are Buckeye fans but, thankfully, aren't major DB's. The MSU fans are much worse down here.
