"While they claimed financial reasons for the withdrawal, we think that having lost to Team Michigan, handily, two years in a row might have played a part in their decision," Merx told the Free Press in an email.

Well said my friend!

I long for the days of beating them two or more years in a row on the football field.

Beating them EVERY year was the norm while I was growing up.

I remember standing in line for a roller coaster at Cedar Point one summer. An OSU fan behind me was wearing a T-shirt with the final score of one of John Cooper's 2 wins against us. He saw my Michigan shirt and then made sure to point to the score on his shirt. I responded, "If I had a t-shirt made for every time Michigan beat OSU, my closet wouldn't be big enough to hold them all."

I miss being able to make comebacks like that to America's worst fan base. And I miss getting excited for that game.

I'm with you on the excitement thing. Half of my life, Michigan has gotten dominated by OSU and it just got old. With the exception of few games during this stretch, I have gone into the game expecting to lose, which diminishes my excitement level prior to the game. It sucks.

Problem is, as we have seen---and I have mentioned MANY times: Ohio State has been the BETTER OVERALL program since then--Cooper just couldn't beat Michigan. BUT--we were beating them to salvage yet another 8-4 season while stopping an undefeated, # 1or 2 ranked team. Except for '97 (WOWZERS they've won TWO NC's since then, BTW, AND played in two more NC games).

Alas, Michigan fans going to Ohio and braggin about anything is probably something most people with a brain would consider to be stupid, and make Michigan's fan base "the most annoying"

is most important to Ohio High School football players.

There was this same sort of kerfuffle a couple years ago when the Big 33 moved from a Pennsylvania vs. Ohio game to a Pennsylvania vs. Maryland game.  Both states' coaches associations arguing about "they chickened out" vs. "no, we pulled out, we have other interests."

I do think these summer high school all-star football games will become increasingly less important in the future.  June is now satellite camp season.  Dynamic is changing.
