More Miles Weirdness
Up 52 - 3 with 3(-ish?) minutes left, LSU has first and goal on the one yard line. Les takes a knee four straight times to give the ball back to Ole Miss.
I get not trying to run it up, but isn't that way more insulting than running your offense while giving some hard-working walk-ons/benchwarmers the highlight of their lives?

Les is playing chess while everyone else is playing checkers

he manages to make it look like he's playing checkers while everyone else is playing chess

And it was more than 3 minutes, right? Wasn't it 5 minutes to go on first down (and then 3 by the time that the ball was turned over on downs to Ole Miss)?

Transcribing it from memory... a relatively large amount of time anyway

I kinda like it. On a similar note, I hope that Hoke goes for 2 when we're up by 35 points next Saturday in the waning minutes, just to rub it in.

When Woody was asked why he went for two with the game in hand he answered because he couldn't go for three. I would never think twice about going for two against ohio if we were winnng handily

This is the best example of the rivalry that there is. I love the call and the explanation. Unfortunately it was the wrong team that was in that position.

I would consider it a class act.

I was so quick to upvote this I didn't think to tag it as funny.
Post of the week... Maybe month.

I was just sitting in a really quiet room and when I read that I started laughing like hell and everyone looked at me like I was crazy

a local restaurant had a $0.59 hamburgers if LSU scores 59 promotion and he was looking out for them.
November 20th, 2011 at 12:07 AM ^
I remember when stoops did that a few to a&m a few years ago. Oklahoma had already hung 77 on them when they started taking a knee.

When you're up 52-3 you can do pretty much anything you want.
November 20th, 2011 at 8:14 PM ^
haven't you pretty much done whatever you want?

Classy thing to do.
November 20th, 2011 at 12:30 AM ^
That's the thing about running up the score... there really is no consensus on it. I saw, put your second and third stringers in and let them play. I've always felt it was more disrespectful not playing your hardest against the opponent, but I doubt Miles intended it that way.
November 20th, 2011 at 12:35 AM ^
He can do whatever he wants....
November 20th, 2011 at 12:46 AM ^
Totally embarrassing. Pull your starters, put in your 4th stringer, run off tackle 4 times in a row, fine, but take a knee 4 times in a row! That says, we feel so sorry for you, we don't want to embarrass you anymore. These are D1 athletes, on a full ride. Probably in the top 1% of football players in this country. I know it's Ole Miss and probably will never have the talent to get revenge, but boy would that burn my ass up!

Didn't Yost regularly punt on first down just to give his defense practice?
November 20th, 2011 at 1:17 AM ^
^any relevance to that?
November 20th, 2011 at 1:45 AM ^
was Nebraska pounding someone in the 70's or 80's. Tom Osborne sent the ballboy over to the other sideline and told the other teams coaches they were going to run the same play over and over.
still couldn't stop it.

Miles could have chosen to set the ball ablaze at midfield and the result would have been exactly the same, just with charred turf.
November 20th, 2011 at 6:37 AM ^
The next time he's accused of running up scores, he just points at this game and says "Look, we took a knee on the 1-yard line four times."
Plus it's a classy move in my book, even though unnecessary...
November 20th, 2011 at 7:57 AM ^
Good Michigan man..And he smokes grass, hell yeah....O wait thats eats grass, right, right...It's ok coach I'll smoke enough for both if us..
November 20th, 2011 at 12:47 PM ^
I think the intent of it is what matters. He didn't want to put anymore points on the scoreboard so he decided to knee it. He wasn't trying to be a smart ass and put them down by demoralizing them more by kneeing it, he was just trying to give them the ball.
November 20th, 2011 at 12:58 PM ^
it caused more contraversey than the other route would have. probably a bad decision in retrospect.
im sure les miles had a lot of beef with huston nutt anyways.
