Minnesota Self Reporting Violations

Submitted by RONick on

Per ESPN, Minnesota is self reporting "secondary" violations during the recruitment of Seantrel Henderson.

Tough to deal with considering they didn't even end up landing him.

I look forward to hearing exactly what the violations are. There was enough information out there on what Brewster did to try and land Henderson (his O-line coach enrolled his son at Cretin Derham so the corch could show up all the time, for one. The ridiculous final night at TCF right before Signing Day - Google the NY TImes story on Seantrel) that I'm not shocked something was awry.

Good for Brewster for owning up to it. Bad for him, though - the AD has publicly reprimanded him for secondary violations related to cell phone / text calls in the past, and Brewster's buyout is one-half of his yearly salary.

Take all this, combine it with the fact that HE DID NOT GET THE HOMETOWN KID HE RECRUITED SINCE THE FIRST DAY HE SHOWED UP IN TOWN, that the pursuit of Seantrel severely hampered the rest of his recruiting (11 de-commits in the 2010 cycle, narrowly lost out on a number of quality recruits, taking at least 15 unrated and 2 star guys instead), and the fact that no team has a tougher schedule in the Big Ten than Minnesota, and Brewster's hot seat this fall is even crispier than Richard Rod.

Oh, the hot rumor up here for months (repeated by dozens of sources, FWIW) is that Seantrel's 35 year old dad, who didn't show up to raise his kid until he was a beast in eighth grade, wants to be a rapper, and USC put him in touch with Snoop Dogg, who promised him a recording deal/demo. So, yeah.

Not surprised they bent the rules trying to get him. Would definitely been worth the secondaries if they had gotten him...

And sorry about the size, but no matter what I do, it is refusing to save the image resizing. It'll do it for the mini-preview, but not the big preview or the actual post...

Funny you should mention McKinnie.

Remember when McKinnie was sent home from the Pro Bowl this year because he skipped a practice?

He skipped that practice not because he was hurt, but because he was out the night before drinking at a strip club.

Guess who was with him? Seantrel Henderson, who was on his official visit to Miami (yes, that Miami) that weekend.

by the government of the United Nations. Man, free to kill gophers at will. To kill, you must know your enemy, and in this case my enemy is a varmint. And a varmint will never quit - ever. They're like the Viet Cong - Varmint Cong. So you have to fall back on superior intelligence and superior firepower. And that's all she wrote.

Secondary Violations Committed by Minnesota During Recruitment of Seantrel Henderson:

  1. On at least three occasions, it is alleged, Head Coach Tim Brewster became so excited that a Schedule 1 narcotic came out of his nose, which could have been interpreted as offering the substance to a recruit.
  2. While on unofficial visit, recruit ate a Halibut on a Stick, and was allowed to keep the stick.
  3. Broke NCAA limit of 30 times a recruit may be told "Donchya know."
  4. During Henderson's visits to campus, it is alleged that mentions of Brett Favre in the local media were kept to just 100 per day, a benefit not offered to normal Minnesota students and citizens.
  5. Minnesota allegedly offered to feed Henderson a Jucy Lucy in hopes the ensuing food coma would keep him in the state until after signing day.
  6. State of Minnesota was already on probation for allowing that Garnett trade. Seriously, Minnesota, way to fuck up basketball for the next five years.
  7. Joe Mauer. Just unfair.
  8. At several times during Henderson's recruitment, Brewster reportedly used athletic department personnel to quickly reply to all Rivals.com articles about Seantrel with the message "FIRST!!!!"
  9. Program falsely claimed to have been relevent after 1930s.
  10. Program falsely claimed to be Michigan's biggest rival because this one time back at the turn of the century, when a game between the two was tied halfway through the 4th quarter, their fans rushed the field to stop Michigan from having any more drives to finish off the Gophers, and during the ensuing melee, stole Michigan's Gatorade container and refused to return it. NCAA rules clearly state that it was Minnesota's responsibility to note that they were then spanked by the Wolverines regularly for the ensuing century.

Otter: You can't hold a whole fraternity responsible for the behavior of a few, sick twisted individuals. For if you do, then shouldn't we blame the whole fraternity system? And if the whole fraternity system is guilty, then isn't this an indictment of our educational institutions in general? I put it to you, Greg - isn't this an indictment of our entire American society? Well, you can do whatever you want to us, but we're not going to sit here and listen to you badmouth the United States of America. Gentlemen!

can be attributed to its organizing body or rules, and that failure attributable to those higher level body or rules, until everything becomes meaningless as it is all doomed to failure. The only way out is  to believe and invest yourself in nothing.

Dantonio: ...and if a few, sick twisted football players were to attack a fraternity, should we then blame blame the entire footbal team? For if we do, then shouldn't we blame the whole game of football? And if the game of football is guilty, then isn't this an indictment of football fans in general? I put it to you, NCAA - isn't this an indictment of our entire American sports-loving society? Well,  you can do whatever you want to us, but we're not going to sit here and listen to you badmouth the United States of America. Gentlemen!

I thought they might be in trouble for having so many decommits.  I now see the error of my ways.

The difference between 'Sota and "Bama?  At 'Sota they have plenty of room, but you leave anyway. 'Bama tells you they have room, but then it is a metaphorical foot rather than your volition that propels you through the door.

thinking they could land a recruit like henderson in the first place.  That violates the NCAA law of logic.  Just kidding.  The NCAA obviously has no logic.
