META: would you like ↑ & ↓ vote detail?

Submitted by kawter on

Monday morning, I'm probably one of the only folks at work with not much to do today (other than the guy thats posting about Zeke while on the can)..   In lieu of double posting another thread or a pic of Jabrill's mangled hand, I thought I'd ask something I've been thinking about for a bit..

Curious if folks would like this feature.... Seems I see a lot of

WTF who downvoted my post!
" etc..

Thought this was interesting on Rivals...  (not the content about concussions, but that you can see who "likes" a post)

PS...  is it possible to embed a poll in the forums?  If so could someone post a link with a how to?

That would be nice.

One thing I'd like is the quote feature, though many people using quote features don't understand how to properly use it. It's what causes certain threads (on Scout, for instance) to become so long. Many people use the quote feature, but don't delete the text they're not responding to, which is what causes threads to become long. I am assuming that is one reason why Brian and his people don't support a quote feature. Just my opinion, but I dislike the current setup with indented replies.

All that said, this is a free website for the readers and I appreciate all the hard work the authors put in, so I really have no room to complain. I'll take MGoBlog however it comes.

EDIT. I'd also like to see our own posts highlighted when logged in, which is how it is on the app.

What most people think of when referring to "reddit style" is that the Highest rated (net total of up & down votes) comment becomes the top comment.  Same is true for replies to comments.  Topics are also sorted using a similar method so active threads appear at the top of the board/frontpage/subreddit.  Good posts/comments appear the top, bad/troll posts appear at the bottom and essentially out-of-sight.  There is also the option to sort topics/comments with the newest post appearing at the top (or bottom).

cross that with a semi-intellectual episode of 'survivor', and thats what would happen if the up/down votes were 'outed'.   i admit a curiousity from time to time, but this would be too much like having a 'politics and religion' section.    chaos, crying, wailing, and gnashing of teeth.

But if sacramental wine is what's being served, then I'll drink that and enjoy it just the same. And we won't be needing any drivers. When a Catholic offers you a night of drinking at their parish an overnight stay is not only implied, but is pretty much expected. At least if the priest is Polish.

Oh my god. You are obsessed with yourself, and it is getting downright fucking creepy. Please stop it. I am 100% serious. Stop for your own good.

Your "feel good Christmas thread" was you jerking off to this image you have of yourself as being some super important internet person. And FTR, I didn't downvote it because it was Christmas, otherwise I would have.

Really? Is that what it was?

Because asking people what Michigan stuff they got for Christmas doesn't sound like that. You know, the same thing I've been doing for years now every Christmas.

You were probably getting worked up over me posting the mention of my name in the copy of Endzone I received for Christmas. In that case,

Yes, er... no. Not worked up, just really kind of amazed, yet not amazed. I really don't know why I ever expect anything different from you. It's just what you do. Someday you may gain some perspective, but then again maybe you won't.
