META: would you like ↑ & ↓ vote detail?
Monday morning, I'm probably one of the only folks at work with not much to do today (other than the guy thats posting about Zeke while on the can).. In lieu of double posting another thread or a pic of Jabrill's mangled hand, I thought I'd ask something I've been thinking about for a bit..
Curious if folks would like this feature.... Seems I see a lot of
WTF who downvoted my post!" etc..
Thought this was interesting on Rivals... (not the content about concussions, but that you can see who "likes" a post)
PS... is it possible to embed a poll in the forums? If so could someone post a link with a how to?

That would be nice.
One thing I'd like is the quote feature, though many people using quote features don't understand how to properly use it. It's what causes certain threads (on Scout, for instance) to become so long. Many people use the quote feature, but don't delete the text they're not responding to, which is what causes threads to become long. I am assuming that is one reason why Brian and his people don't support a quote feature. Just my opinion, but I dislike the current setup with indented replies.
All that said, this is a free website for the readers and I appreciate all the hard work the authors put in, so I really have no room to complain. I'll take MGoBlog however it comes.
EDIT. I'd also like to see our own posts highlighted when logged in, which is how it is on the app.December 28th, 2015 at 1:39 PM ^
Only negative would be that some GIF or funny meme would be voted to the top of a lot of threads.
East German Judge's dream come true.

BTW, I did upvote you and once Brian turns the feature on you can see that.

For one, the number that is shown by your post is in the aggregate; e.g. if you receive 1000 upvotes and 1 downvote, a 999 is shown by your post.

I actually like seeing the upvotes and downvotes. Some posts are really divisive and have a lot of both. If it just has +1, it might look like barely anyone voted on it.
December 28th, 2015 at 2:19 PM ^
You're not the only one brutus. I barely have enough time to keep up with Mgoblog much less wander further into the www...
There have been enough contentious threads over the past couple days that I'm not sure seeing who up- or downvotes could bring anything good though...

My kids use it, but like you I don't.

I like Reddit because you sort by "new" or "best"
December 28th, 2015 at 4:12 PM ^
The main thing is that posts with lots of upvotes get promoted to the top, while poor posts get downvoted into oblivion. With the current Mgo system the top posts are occupied by whoever replies first, while the best responses usually get buried somewhere on page 6.

That was SO cool ken - I voted!
But in keeping with my preference I can't tell you which way I voted, or even that I upvoted you...
EDIT: I tried to vote twice, but it wouldn't let me! SO cool...

Out of curiosity. Never used Reddit before...I'm TeamMGoBlog only.
December 28th, 2015 at 4:44 PM ^
What most people think of when referring to "reddit style" is that the Highest rated (net total of up & down votes) comment becomes the top comment. Same is true for replies to comments. Topics are also sorted using a similar method so active threads appear at the top of the board/frontpage/subreddit. Good posts/comments appear the top, bad/troll posts appear at the bottom and essentially out-of-sight. There is also the option to sort topics/comments with the newest post appearing at the top (or bottom).
December 28th, 2015 at 8:43 PM ^
This indeed is what we need. That sounds like a glorious system.
Edit: But WD would never have his posts at the top. Poor fella.
December 28th, 2015 at 4:01 PM ^
Especially if it comes with the ability to move top rated comments to the top, or to collaspe entire threads. Some of these 100+ comment posts are damn near impossible to read or figure out who is replying to who.

Did you create this thread just to show us your cool alt arrows?
December 28th, 2015 at 1:31 PM ^
I created this because i was taking a shit at work and someone had already posted about Zeke wrecking his car with dealer plates </s>...
the ↑ & ↓ characters are just a byproduct of me being a child of the internets

who the hell downvoted this!! ;)
December 28th, 2015 at 1:37 PM ^
You'll never know, unless Brian grants your wish, and BTW I would like that.
December 28th, 2015 at 1:41 PM ^
Especially if they did it retroactively without announcing it. The board would eat itself alive in a matter of hours.
December 28th, 2015 at 1:47 PM ^
It would go something like this....
December 28th, 2015 at 3:17 PM ^
I tend to confine my down votes to
1. MSU steroid apologists
2. PSU child abuse enabler apologists
I won't even squirm when it shows I went back to all of the apologists' comments and down voted each one whether it was an apologist post or not.
December 28th, 2015 at 2:19 PM ^
cross that with a semi-intellectual episode of 'survivor', and thats what would happen if the up/down votes were 'outed'. i admit a curiousity from time to time, but this would be too much like having a 'politics and religion' section. chaos, crying, wailing, and gnashing of teeth.

The Hatter knows what is best. He is the minority around here because Ann Arbor has a way of conditioning that wisdom out of people (particullarly with topics relating to fairness and natural instinct).

I'll invite you out to our parish in Milford and we'll get skunked on the sacramental wine. Unconsecrated, of course, because we got to have SOME rules.

for the participants? i'm sure hatter is a fancy drinker too, so he'll have to see the wine list beforehand.

They even negged me in the feel-good Christmas thread I made on Christmas day. Talk about obsession.
December 28th, 2015 at 2:17 PM ^
Oh my god. You are obsessed with yourself, and it is getting downright fucking creepy. Please stop it. I am 100% serious. Stop for your own good.
Your "feel good Christmas thread" was you jerking off to this image you have of yourself as being some super important internet person. And FTR, I didn't downvote it because it was Christmas, otherwise I would have.

Really? Is that what it was?
Because asking people what Michigan stuff they got for Christmas doesn't sound like that. You know, the same thing I've been doing for years now every Christmas.

Yes, er... no. Not worked up, just really kind of amazed, yet not amazed. I really don't know why I ever expect anything different from you. It's just what you do. Someday you may gain some perspective, but then again maybe you won't.
