Longest Offseason Ever...Opinions?

Submitted by LebronJames on

Hey Guys,

Counterstrike guy here again. I've taken a break from counterstrike since Jordan Fuller let my video game source and I down by not committing to UofM. But now I'm back and playing Overwatch.

This offseason has felt incredibly drawn out, especially the last month or so. I know it's < three weeks to go till football, but it seems like forever.

Question -- which offseason was the most painstakingly slow for you?

This current one seems like the shortest in recent memory with the Signing of the Stars, NFL draft, satellite camps, and the return to Nike/Jordan. There wasn't a long period without news regarding Michigan/Harbaugh.

At least we went to a bowl game in RR's last season. I know the result wasn't anything we want to remember, but at least the off-season didn't start until January. For Hoke's last season, the off-season started in November, so that was a long offseason in actual days and with Harbaugh coming in, the anticipation made it seem long as well.

could just dig through some archives and find the dates of the last game from one season and the first game of the next season, and count the number of days.  The offseason with the most days would constitute the longest.

I refuse to wish away my summers, even though my most passionate rooting interests are football and hockey.  October is the best month of the year, with the start of hockey season, Big Ten football, playoff baseball, high school Friday nights and Sunday NFL afternoons all going on at the same time, but I'm not wishing away everything I enjoy about summer to get there just because of high college football expectations.  The last time we went into a season with this type of talk, we all know what Appalachian State and Oregon did to us.

Enjoy each day.

To me this offseason has fet way shorter than previous years. Maybe its because of the olympics or that my home project list has gotten longer. Every project is going on hold when football starts

This one has been long until the last 4 months. Been training in Ft. Sill and staying busy makes everything fly by!

No bowl game, and waiting to wash out the taste of a 3-9 season and to see what Tate Forcier and Denard Robinson could do. I think that was the longest.

That one gets my vote too. Every offseason for me has seemed to get shorter and shorter. It seems like we were just watching us dismantle Florida and that was 3/4 of a year ago already.

In my head, I heard that story as told by a 95-year old man with a gravely voice, as one who had experienced and lived through untold sufferings over the years.  He started the story with the preface, back in the summer of aught nine...

If we're really going to measure this, then we need a reliable metric, and because this is a blog and we're not exactly free from the bonds of subjectivity when it comes to quality and quantity of content, it's difficult. However, if you ask me, if we're going to use the quality of the OT season as a measure of how badly people want this season to begin, then the relatively subpar performance of most OT threads over the last few months should tell you...well....yeah, this one.

In combination of the "down" basketball season, Harbaugh no longer being a new UM coach, the training camp submarine, the hype behind this team, and some out there threads (due to the reasons above), I think it is. Thank God for the DC search, Satellite camps, and Big 12 Expansion because I couldn't imagine going through the offseason without it.

To me every off season is long. February to September is for the most part a sports wasteland.

The sub is well known, very well accepted, they throw some bitz here and there.

As above, I think all of the "public" events have kept it interesting as well as the hire of Don Brown.

I have no doubt Michigan is going to be a force to be reckoned with this year.  Its just a matter of how well they deal with adversity as there's always going to be that road game where they're down late in the game.  And there is always the freaky ways "the football bounces" that nobody can predict (could be good or bad).  Indiana ran us ragged last year and I feel certain they are going to try to duplicate.  Can we lock it down?  Urban Meijer is also a good coach, as well as a shopping mecca.  He will have his team ready and the home field advantage.

Last offseason was the longest for me. The anticipation of Jim Harbaugh turning around the program was killing me.

Especially after that 2014 season.

This one by far. A little bit just because expectations haven't been this high for a while, but also I personally have had the entire summer off.

Graduated at the end of April and work doesn't start till next week. So this is the first summer since I've been a Michigan fan that I haven't had work or classes to make the time go by faster in the summer/distract me from the season. Not complaining about all the time off, but definitely ready to start work at this point.

Also, I think the offseason feels a lot longer when our basketball season goes poorly, as it has for the last two years.

Typically, I find that January through April I don't actively miss football/don't think about it too much. Then start to get the bug in May, but usually the excitement of summer starting in June eases it a bit. But then July and August are always excruciating.

Honestly, this year might feel worse too because although I'm excited to watch us beat Hawaii, UCF and Colorado by a combined score of 300-0, we have to wait longer than usual within the season to actually have an interesting game/test.
