Lions to hire former Chargers coach Anthony Lynn as OC

Seems to be a good hire by the Lions. Lynn had a couple of decent years in LA where he had some horrible luck.

I’m feeling uneasy because the Lions seem to be making competent decisions.
Sad to Stafford go but if he wants to, they owe him that. But their decisions have been good so far IMO. I questioned the Campbell hire but would give it a pass if they hired the right coordinators and I think they have.

It might not mean much, but I've now read about the OC and DC that they had other opportunities but wanted to work with Campbell. Also, despite his crazy press conference, I saw an interview where he said he's really not the rah-rah give a big motivational speech kind of guy. Nothing matters if he doesn't win, but those bits are encouraging I think.

Seems like a good move by the Lions, which of course means some monkey paw-like deal must be going on.

Wait... Kneecaps only really cares about the "nuts and bolts" of how his coordinators will attack other teams? He's not going to be married to any particular scheme? Umm... This seems, uhh, ... competent.
WTF is going on here?
The last Lions coach that talked about general competence was Caldwell. And while I was never a fan, I can admit he was the best Lions coach since Wayne Fonts (mannn, saying Fonts was good seems so strange!). Maybe getting away from the Patriots carousel will be good?

I'm sorry, did you mean Fred Flintstone?

I loved the Wayne Fontes interview (post Lions) at his home in Florida on the Gulf of Mexico. I don't remember a word he said and all I could think about was that we all should be able to sit in a white Adirondack on the clear blue gulf and enjoy the beverage of our choice when we retire. It must be great to be Lions ex-coach.

Good hire? Was roughly .500 as head coach and only 1 season as an OC. He does have experience working with a former Buckeye quarterback who didn't go to Columbus to play school.

Im not getting ny hopes up yet again about the Lions being a good team. Its still in the talking a good game phase so Im skeptical until proven otherwise

My lions circle of despair is like that but I skip the two parts with hope.

Nothing about the new hires inspires great confidence. A bunch of unproven guys, including a novice head coach who doesn’t have a scheme, presiding over a mediocre roster now absent its best player/leader. And Trevor Lawerence ain’t walking through the door. With the Lions’ luck, they’ll get Justin Fields, who will be out of the league in three years.

Rinse and repeat. Time will tell.

All the Lions need to do is get Watson and they will win the Super Bowl next year.

I think a Watson for Stafford trade would be great for both teams. Matt is from Texas, so a homecoming of sorts for him. Watson is very talented and a new team for him is what he wants.?
Not sure about the Super bowl though..

This is a very good hire. I like Campbell and Lynn. Now let the GM draft some talent and depth.

I thought he was pretty good with my Bills. Sometimes guys just get Peter Principle'd and that doesn't mean they suck now. Lynn was obviously in over his head as HC but he's a pretty good grab for an OC position

This maybe the only way a players coach, like Fontes, can succeed. Surround yourself with good assistant coaches. I bet Spielman has been helping with these decisions.

Spielman almost HAS to be involved with all of this. Despite his OSU upbringing, dude has some football knowledge and talent backing it up. If he says it's good, I'll believe him.
But he hasn't said anything about any of it, yet...

"Despite his OSU upbringing" football knowledge was pretty wide of the mark. For in the last seventy years, our football know-how came from OSU upon the arrival of Bo.
And obviously you don't know Spielmans history. He loves Michigan. Committed to Bo. and then his father committed essentially child abuse and got the entire town to tell.hin that he won't ever be welcome back in Massillon, that his father will disown him and that he will be fired from job etc. Speilman caved in the end, but anyone who knows knows he wanted to play for Bo.
January 24th, 2021 at 6:09 PM ^
You should do some fact checking before shooting off... Bo went to Miami (OH), where he played for Hayes; and was a head coach at Miami (OH). He was an assistant at OSU for a total of 5 years under Hayes. So, from 1949 to 1969, Bo was coached and/or bossed by Hayes for all of 7 years - not all of it at OSU. To say that 70 years of Michigan football was all because of OSU is a vast pile of bullshit.
Yeah, I know Spielman's history, also. He grew up in an OSU household, in an OSU town. Because he wanted to go somewhere else doesn't change his upbringing. Stop being a dummass...

Finally something logical coming out of the Loins organizing. Amazing.
January 24th, 2021 at 12:08 PM ^
I’m not thrilled as his background seems to be in the mold of typical, stagnant run, run, pass, punt call playing.

I like the Campbell hire. He fits perfect in Detroit looking like the Great Lebowski and Dave Canterbury from Dual Survival. Everyone is giving him shit and making fun of him. Watch this guy win a playoff game with Detroit. I’m also glad Stafford is gone. He’s old, beat up and battered. Time to start fresh and hopefully they pick Mac Jones with a brain
